How good is Brad Arthur's latest interview!

Jake the Snake: This week what have you made of what's been in the papers?

King Arthur's: The only thing our fans and members are concerned about is the performance we put in on Saturday night. (i.e. if you're concerned about all the media muck raking you're not a fan, and shouldn't be a member)

Hopefully the worst is over

For sure. The side bottomed in 2011 and has improved ever since. The two wooden spoons came because Hayne was on the books but off the field a lot in those years. The Cowboys lost the most games in 2010 when Thurston spent a lot of time injured. They were only saved from the spoon by the Storm losing all their points.

Was the Josh with the Channel 7 microphone Massoud?
I reckon the club should ban some reporters from our pressers... especially the ones that make up stories at their leisure.

He also was a Storm sympathiser and was Hages biggest fan. Not sure he is even an Eels fan.

It's a real shame when you think about all the good posters that have left this forum over the years, and we
are now left with numbnut merkins like Swiftsyles & Jake the snake sucker. :sarcasm:

Very difficult to do when they hold an NRL acreditation, we start refusing to allow certain journos it will only add to more fuel from them and more fines from the governing body... We just need to do things a bit smarter, it's not difficult, Brad proved that today

BA was outstanding again today, if only the same sort of leadership was produced further up the ladder.

I thought Foran was also very good on the BSB as well.

Parramatta league chief Steve Sharp under pressure

WHEN he first campaigned to join the Parramatta board in the lead-up to the club’s May 2013 election, chairman Steve Sharp promised a new dawn of good governance for the embattled club.
“The members and supporters of the Eels deserve better and I am determined to push the club forward into a new era of stability and good governance,” he vowed.
Fast-forward three years, and Sharp’s tenure as the club’s chairman is increasingly being viewed as a disaster — and anything but “good governance”.
My revelations this week of alleged systemic salary cap rorting at the Eels have shaken the team’s family of members and supporters to the core. They have also infuriated the NRL, which at best has been misled by Sharp and other Eels directors.
Most Parramatta fans would hope the penny is finally dropping for Sharp and his fellow longstanding directors, deputy chairman Tom Issa, Peter Serrao and former Eel Geoff Gerard, as well as current CEO John Boulous.
They have all been members of the club’s governing body during the events detailed in The Telegraph this week.
I understand NRL boss John Grant stressed the gravity of the situation on Thursday when he issued a “please explain” to Sharp.
The NRL is greatly concerned that when it fined the Eels $465,000 for previous salary cap breaches it was assured there had been a full disclosure by the club.
If Parramatta is found to have deliberately misled the NRL, it raises questions under the Corporations Act about whether directors and officers of the Parramatta National Rugby League Club lived up to their fiduciary duties.
The NRL is wasting no time in getting to the bottom of this issue, with a crack team of salary cap auditors, integrity unit investigators and forensic accountants ready to set up camp in the club, possibly on Monday.
If the directors are found to have been complicit in any deception, it raises questions about whether they can hold other board positions in the future — including their roles as directors of the more lucrative Parramatta Leagues Club, the pokies cash cow that funds the Eels to the tune of $8 million a year and last year generated revenue of $79 million.
The NRL has also insisted that Parramatta fix its overall corporate governance, which includes pushing for reform at board level.
Since my revelations I hear there is a push within the club to search for younger, more suitably qualified and independent directors for the board.
The NRL is seeking to professionalise the code at the highest levels to match the much more professional standards of corporate governance at the AFL.
Some of Australia’s leading business figures, including the likes of Tony Shepherd and David Smorgon, have headed up AFL clubs.
This calibre of chairman presents a stark contrast to that of many NRL clubs.
Sharp, as Eels chairman, and several of his board members, have had little or no business experience — which is extraordinary for what is in effect a company that turns over just under $80 million a year.
If the NRL is to have any hope of matching the credibility of the AFL in terms of the calibre of its board members then it must be seen to be taking rapid and determined action to improve the calibre of the directors and officers who are running its heartland clubs.

Another article another day about our gutless plumber. I don't know how BA puts up with the boards crap!!

http://www.news.com.au/sport/nrl/eels/coach-brad-arthur-left-strand...

FOR 2½ years, Eels coach Brad Arthur has been the rock at Parramatta, surrounded by a rubble.

You saw again on Friday why players like Kieran Foran think so highly of him.

You can only wonder what the Parramatta players must think of the rest of the people in charge of this strife-torn club right now.

The fact that no Parramatta official or chairman Steve Sharp turned up with Arthur on Friday to front the media and answer questions over this week’s latest salary cap allegations only pointed out why this club is in desperate need of a major overhaul at administration and board level.

Why should a coach be left to face the music on his own when these alleged dodgy deals are not of his or the players’ making?

While Arthur was never going to run away from his obligations to try to get the fans to Saturday’s home game against the Cowboys, someone else should have been strong enough to join him and at least give those same fans some understanding of where the club is at with this latest investigation. Just as importantly, they need to explain why the fans should continue to stay loyal to a club that crashes from one disaster to the next in record time.

But instead of lending the coach any support on Friday, Arthur was forced to stand there and cop the questions like he was the sole person responsible for the latest scandal.

In actual fact, it is a coach’s job to try to convince players to come and play for a club, which Arthur has done.

The financial workings and legalities of those deals are signed off on at another level.

That is why Arthur should not have been left stranded on Friday.

Maybe, like Arthur, there might not have been a great deal they could have said with the investigation ongoing.

But just turning up would have been a statement in itself.

Gotta feel sorry for BA, he has had everything thrown at him his first 2 and a bit years at the club.

And none of it has been his fault, he's shown great leadership and man management skills. Hopefully this season isn't taken out of his hands.
