We are well under the salary cap however we don't have the money avaliable to spend right up to the salary cap like various other clubs have

Are you serious? We can't afford to spend all our money? That's a bit scary...

We have never been able to - I think the most we where able to spend was at the start of the JV when we could just get over $2.9 million.

However in saying things have been looking a heap better of late and the fact that we do have so many good juniors and in key positions all through the ranks is going to be a very big bonus in years to come.

I dont think we are substantially under the salary cap mighty. Players like senter, prince, sattler, skandalis and hodgson are on pretty good money. I think its more to do with value. We have so many good young players there is no need to pay over the odds for a player we will only use for two years. Three areas were needed strengthehing last year. Halves, fullback and props. We solved a bit of our halves problem by buying Prince, Fullback is fully solved and Props well not really but we are getting there. The only mistakes we made last year were buying Graham and letting O'Hallaran go. In my view Mark was one of our best players last year. I had never been a fan of the guy previously but last year he proved to me he had what it took, and he gained a considerable amount of pace. I was very sad to see him go but since he was getting better money good luck to him

cheers

Do our leagues clubs not make enough money or what, why can't we afford to spend right to the salary cap? 3 leagues clubs, healthy crowds, sponsership..

We would be at least $800k under the cap.

Senter is on hardly anything this year and was last year as well!

Payten has been a free buy!

Hodgson, Prince, Mears, Sattler and Galea are our highest earners

Skando, Buckets, Fitzy, Miles and Wilson are next

The rest are hardly on anything whilst playing out of their skins

The main problem over past years has been sponsorship we have never been rich in that area - until of late but even then that is paying off debts.

The leagues clubs profits don't go towards the Wests Tigers - They make there own contributions to the Wests Tigers but there profits have nothing to do with the Wests Tigers as a whole.

I think the herbal world sponsorship will see us with more money than previous years though - I was under the impression its a lot more generous than our previous sponsorship arrangements have been.

Do you think having harry from meriton back on board will significlanty increase our pockets, because, if the boys keep going well we will have to upgrade contracts..

Whens miles off contract, we should let him go..free up some money for a big man.

Payten may be a free but he is not free on our salary cap. That is why the Roosters released him; so they wouldnt have to count his money. Although the Raiders and the Roosters are paying the majority of his contract it all counts towards our salary cap

I doubt Harry will throw all that much into the JV - more likely to throw it at Balmain though because thats where his heart is.

Miles is off contract at the end of 2005 and thank god for that!!!

also have to add that Nick Graham's contract would not be insubstantial. I cant wait for Miles to leave. How the hell we let O'Halloran go and kept Miles I will never know

I was under the understanding that if a club is still playing a playes contract that still comes off that clubs cap :?

Either way the Roosters this year are hardly paying anything for Payten as it was ( I think when I saw the figure it was something like $90k) - next year was when they paid the most they would of ever paid for him ;-) What does take place is that the Wests Tigers will pay say $40k for this year for Payten but the Roosters would pay $50 and the Raiders pay the rest (something along those lines but I am certain that still adds towards the cap of the other side because its money spent by that team towards a player who is still on there books)

Something simular happened with Clayton and Milton whose salaries didn't get assigned to our cap then - something I am 100% positive about.
