Sandcastle construction

related to this topic of kicking tees constructed from sand, when did kickers start changing the placement of the ball? Today, all kickers take conversions by placing the ball diagonally on the tee (nearly on a 45 degree angle), whereas in this clip at 1:08 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SIjw7Qd6QY&feature=relmfu), I remember when I started following league in the mid '90s, kickers who had the 'round the corner' technique used to take conversions with the ball placed vertically on the sand mound (only toe pokers like Terry Lamb had the ball diagonally).

For those on this forum who are/used to be goalkickers, is it more beneficial taking a conversion placing the ball diagonally ? Is the reason why kickers do that because they are able to kick it further or what (why is it in Rugby Union conversions, the ball is placed differently from League)?

Depends on the kicker. Some prefer it vertical, other diagonal.

Toe poking is simpler for getting power, but little aim.

Having the ball diagonal is better for aim and kicked with the right technique, has more power too.
