Training mishap grounds Sattler

By Steve Mascord

WESTS TIGERS

Officials are understood to have complained to the NRL about the lack of action against Melbourne's Danny Williams for a challenge that broke second-rower Mark O'Neill's nose last Saturday. Skipper Scott Sattler, who injured his hamstring on Tuesday at training, did not travel with the team to Christchurch yesterday ahead of Sunday's Jade Stadium encounter with the Warriors. "If Scott comes good during the week, we'll fly him over," said coach Tim Sheens. Liam Fulton travelled in place of Sattler, while Chris Heighington may join the starting side.

Why the Hell not Gray? :? Dead Set, i'm a big believer in Fulton, but he's bound to get hammered by the Warriors pack.

exactly what i was thinking gobbs. while some of our young guys like fulton, collis, harrison may have all the talent in the world, their bodies haven't fully matured yet. and compared to the nz pack, im guessing most of their forwards would have around 3 or 4 inches in height and 10-20 kilos on your guys. and us without the experience of oneil, sattler and graham

viane would be perfect. has his attitude or performance for the maggies been poor?

fulton made his debut against the warriors in 2003, maybe it cant be that bad, but sheens is obviously leaving the gravy train out for a reason, ONLY HE KNOWS WHY.....

bring back gravy

Im going to take the half glass full option this week.It gives us a good opportunity to see how good Heghno and Fulton are going. They will be up against a very aggressive pack.If they come through it we can say they are first grade standard and ready for more game time.

And I must admit Ive bben stinging to see more of Fulton after his game against the Dogs where he looked very sharp indeed.

Cheers.

Unfortunate

From an outsiders perspective, and no disrespect meant to last years Tigers team, Sattler has been the big difference that has turned the Tigers from a fringe team to a top eight team...similar to Campion with us.

I can't agree with that.

Watching the team all year Satts has been solid and I mean absolutely no disrespect to him but neither do I think he's added anything to the team that we didn't have before.

He fills basically the same role as Buckets but misses more tackles and gives away more penalties - I think the big difference between this year and last years team has been hodgson and prince - finally giving us quality players in what were very weak positions for us.

Well, you'd probably know better.

I've had the opportunity to see two Tigers games this year, so a lot of my theory is assumption

Jesus....I have a gnawing suspicion in the back of my mind that last Saturdays Melb loss is going to be a turning point for us re: season 04.....having read that Satts is now out aint helping my negative thoughts....god I hope Im wrong.

I agree but in a different way In the past if a player like Sattler was injured someone like Graham would be brought in reguardless of form , this time however younger players are being given the chance .

Yeah it is surprising that Fulton did travel, considering our bench already contained Both Gibbs and Harrison, now a thrid man in Fulton means we wont have much other than Mears coming off the bench. Still, its a great chance for those 3 to really step up and make a statement, thats what i'll be hoping for.

Still, there's a great need now for our big 3, Skandalis , Payten and Laffranchi to have big games now.

I disagree that Sattler will not be a loss, especially over there where the young blokes could easily be over-rawed

He is the main talker in the team, who will lead us around and rally the troops with Senter off for half the game

Second top offloader in the comp, in the top ten defenders and just bring that winners feeling to the club

Guys what happened without mccracken in 2000 after melbourne???, he wasnt setting the world on fire, butwe lost our leader and fell in a heap, lets hope its only for a week or i can see the 2004 melbourne game as again being the start of a slide....

I'm glad someone else thinks this. Sattler has been inspirational for the Tigers. The number of times he has made try saving tackles, or has been the last line of defence, or has been the only forward back in position has been incredible. He makes tackles, runs the ball hard and is a safe player.

He also leads by example and has been a steadying influence on the younger players in the team. There are things you really can't measure - just compare the character of the side now when he is captain compared to all the sh*t that Senter used to pull.

An excellent buy for the Tigers, he is filling his role perfectly this year and will be missed this weekend.
