So far we have about 5 helpers. We'd really like a few more so if you said you'd help in the threads of the past, now is the time!!

If you can't help but believe in the cause, please make sure you grab a petition and sign it. If you grab a few, postage is reply paid so please gather a few signatures off family, friends, co-workers etc and send them in together later on.. it won't cost you a cent and every bit helps.

We'll also be launching a website this weekend so stay tuned for that too. We are serious about this and the club's have been supportive so now we need your help.

Sincas, Ric and Brook,

Why not try to ring up "A View from the Hill" - rugby league supporters program on 2SER 107.3FM and try and get some exposure for it on-air, i'm sure the guys wouldn't mind the news and would be glad to air your call

Show is on Saturdays from 11am-12pm.....i've pm'd Brook with more clearer details, with the ph. no for the show etc so if you guys think its a good idea - go with it.....a few of the guys on the panel are Balmain Tigers fans who don't support the WT's but love Leichhardt Oval

I've passed those details on to Ric and Sincas so hopefully we'll be able to organise someone to ring.

on the same track it might be worthwhile (depending on how much time we have) getting in contact with the guys from rugby league review

they are very 'tradition friendly' and would very likely be willing to give some publicity to any efforts to save leichhardt, they have published articles on the saints R2K group in the past.

The downside is its only a monthly paper so it might be a while before it brings results but everything helps at this stage I think

Brook you wouldn't happen to know if there are any plans to upgrade the forum servers would you? My posts often never show up or I'll double post, not to mention the down time.

yup - two new servers have been purchased, one for the website and one for the forums, the website has already been switched over and is working great

the forums are next and things should be much better from then on in. Theres been a few technical problems getting everything together but I'm told that it should all be completed by mid May

This was sent out to the media today:
PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE
Stop the rot!
SAVE LEICHHARDT OVAL!
23rd April 2004

Leichhardt Oval has been the Tigers home since 1934. There’s no better place to watch footy. But Leichhardt Oval is in urgent need of repair.
We need the Government to lend a hand.

This Sunday (25th April 04) when the Eagles take on the Tigers at Leichhardt Oval we will be launching our campaign to save Leichhardt Oval. We’ll be handing out petitions to pressure the state government to get behind us in our quest to secure Leichhardt Oval not only as a football ground but also as a community asset for many years to come.

In a game that is crying out for its traditions what better tradition is there than Sunday afternoon footy at Leichhardt oval. Please lend your support to our cause.

Please note that this is a supporter’s initiative and although both the Wests Tigers and Balmain Tigers football clubs are supporting us, the fans are driving this.

Already we're getting responses...

The website is still under construction so give me until Sunday or make sure you go back on Sunday and after that as it will be evolving in the next few days.

Innsaneo; get the kids to warm up with a few laps of the oval handing out petitions!

Yeah...he just stated the facts and what needs to be done. They got new Leichhardt Mayor on the line someone Murphy? She said that the council is committed to seeing the ground upgraded, but wouldn't answer how much they are going to help, with i guess construction and financial contributions. She kept saying that they would wait to see how much others help first...

Now there's some shelia on the radio bagging Campbelltown. She can go and get stuffed! People like this is why the Joint-Venture will never be successful. Stupid bloody woman.

I agree Gobbs. I tuned out after Ric. This is not a Campbelltown V Leichhardt issue.

Unfortunately since our press release went out today we have even had some people contact us and ask us why we are bothering because Campbelltown is where the games should be played so there are two sides to every argument.

You know that myself, Ric and Rif attend games at all venues where possible but we want to see Leichhardt being used for many years to come. This is a joint venture, Leichhardt is one half of it. I would not have it any other way. I'm happy to split the games with Campbelltown, lets just make our home games as good as they can be, and to do that and ensure we have a home at Leichhardt in the future we need to act now and get the ground repaired. We don't want a stadium full of seats, we still want the hill etc, we just want the ground to have the basics to live on, ie disabled access, decent corporate boxes, better toilets, a level playing field so other sports can use it.

Its great that people feel passionate about the future of Leichhardt Oval - its place that holds wonderful memories for many people. Having said that we are not running this as a campaign to set one ground up against the other. In fact our emphasis is on the ground being an asset for the entire community. Thats the only way we will be able to get funding.

Good work Suzie. Every bit helps.

Gobbs, I don't know if you tuned out before I got on but I noticed somebody else sent in an email trying to turn it into a Balmain V Wests thing. Those people could not be more wrong. I know you understand where we are coming from.

I have worked for Wests Tigers ever since they were formed. Ric flew to Nth Qld just to watch the joint venture side a few weeks back and Rif goes to games wherever they are and has helped the JV club out with video packages etc. Everyone involved is committed to the joint venture and not gaining ascendancy.

Sincas....
Im as black n white as they come, but I realize theres no ulterior motive with S.L.O. other than Saving Lchhdt Oval.
That however, unfortunately WILL NOT be the case with the majority from both Wests and Balmain sides...I think frustratingly your just gunna have to keep letting people know its not a Leichhardt/Campbelltown or Wests/Balmain thing.

I'll grab some paperwork on Sunday, should be able to get a few siggies at Jnrs training and game days.

Your right Insaneo we have a battle not just to save LO but to keep the dogs at bay.. But it's worth it.. There is negative but we have and will continue to turn them around to see what this is about and for that matter the Wests Tigers as a whole..
Folks, pls don't let the crap effect your focus on the real issues and the real fans. My history Balmain, my respect to the Maggies and my heart to the West Tigers.... Onwards and upwards....

Just heard Ric on 2SER.....good work mate......the word is spreading, action must surely soon follow.

Just a question...he sounded very definite that the stands WILL be coming down.
When?

Its imperative that this is echoed continuously otherwise as Ink said, it will turn into a Campbelltown Vs. Leichhardt - Wests Vs. Balmain issue, which we do not want to happen. It's already sounding like it is. Especially with that idiot woman yesterday. I'm really regretting the fact that i didn't jump on the phone and give her a serve. Why bother supporting the Joint-Venture if you're not going to support it fully? That's what sh#ts me to tears!
