Bloody hell one comment and the Aussie patriots come flooding in.

My point was this: had Australia been required to qualify from a group consisting of Croatia, Ukraine and Belarus or France, Serbia and Romania or Denmark, Hungary, Portugal and Sweden or Germany and Russia then i suspect they would be found out big time under Pim who i do not rate as a coach.

But as it is, Australia, along with Japan, basically have a free ride to the World Cup. Sure we have Andorra and the Kazaks (who we beat a combined 17-1) but only 1 team goes through in our group with 2nd a play-off. Australia were guaranteed an automatic top 2 spot given they and Japan are the only two sides in the group ranked in the worlds top 10'000 FFS! And yet 3rd place still gets a play-off!

So any comments about Australia's defensive record might need to be put on hold until you're drawn in a group with the likes of SPain, Germany, Hollan, Brazil etc. Slightly tougher opposition...

But we've now gone off topic...

So i'll bring it back on topic by saying that if Scott McDonald and Brett Holman are in Australias first team calculations then trouble might be around the corner. Trouble even scoring a goal im afraid.

It can be dangerous judging a teams form based on friendlies.

Look i hope Australia have a great World Cup. They are clearly my second team in football (hey i am Tommy Two Teams) and i will cheer for them every time except of course against England.

Its just that this time im abit reserved about my hopes for Australia. But being an England fan i know better than most that playing crap teams can bring the worst out of you so perhaps once the real thing starts Australia will lift their game.

Im just worried about teams' goal scoring records under Pim though. Dating back to South Korea.

That's true. Actually one thing that has seemed to escape notice after that match is the conduct of the Bahraini players on the pitch. 27 fouls we were whistled for, 27 firken fouls, and I'm sure not even half of them were genuine. It's not just Bahrain either. Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, whichever oil-rich sheikhdom it is, the games are constantly bogged down by diving that puts the primadonnas of the European leagues to shame. They know we have a reputation for being physical and decide to exploit it to the fullest extent.

Apologies for the harsh words to follow but these nations are a blight on Asian Football and I hate seeing them advance to the later stages all the time. Without the money to entice these african and south american ring-ins they would not be so well-off, they have tiny populations (Bahrain doesn't even have one million!) and the games have absolutely no atmosphere, usually patronised by a bunch of rich folk. The sooner countries like Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and especially India and China, can start producing the players that the popularity of football in their countries deserves then Asian football will be that much healthier.

I remember in 2006 going to the SFS to watch the Asian Cup qualifier against Bahrain.

The night Bresciano scored his great goal.

Aust up 2-0 at half time, all Bahrain did in the second half was fall over and have a stretcher come on.

Just thought i'd mention that Andorra would struggle to beat Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands with defence like this. The Asian group's defence is nowhere near as bad as this is. This is piss poor.

It's kinda apples and oranges.

If Australia was in that group, you'd probably (i hope) see different tactics, they'd be playing in europe, much closer for the players and you wouldnt be playing in 40 plus degree heat on the back on one or two training sessions.

I'd like to see how some european sides would go playing in those type of conditions against sides, who while not skillful, are well organised. I'm not see we'd be seeing massive scores.
