He wanted a two year deal, Saints would only offer him one year. I don't think it's a good move by Hull to be honest, he will struggle to last one more year let alone two.

:)

He was linked to Warrington, thank god we missed that one.

He wanted a two year contract, but stains only offered him one. Mainly due the fact that he is passed it now.

I don't see this as a good move for Hull. I'd of thought he would end up somewhere like Widnes, but Hull must have some money floating around and be desperate.

And to think, someone in the Eels forum suggested he come to Parra. If hes struggling in the SL, he would get dropped to Wenty damn quick.

Who will be the 7 for St Helens now?

Jeez I hate it when Aussie fans are so cluelessly out of date. Long is 32. He is not 'struggling in SL', he is close to retirement. Besides, Tim Smith is getting found out every week in SL and there seem to be a heap of people on the Parra forum who want to re-sign him.

I saw Tim Smith playing for Parra and always thought he went well, his defence is getting exposed every week here though and he has mostly been playing for the reserves or off the bench. It was just an example to reply to the 'struggling in SL' comment. Someone like Jordan Tansey is another one. He was a below average fringe player in SL and is getting a start every week with the Roosters.

Umm, why Aussie fans. Its not like we are having a go at him because he is English and playing in the Super League. Its that he is well past his prime and dont think he could or want to come to the NRL and deal with the preasures that are here.

Even you yourself said.

I think you will find that Parra fans want Timmy back because it would be a "fairlytale". He was Parras faovourite son for a while there. We also need a half back at the moment and Timmy has played with most of our current side and would fit in well. If he was younger and at his prime, he probably would be fine as I think he was a superb player.

Id also like to question what Brian Noble is doing with Timmy then if he is getting found out every week. He knows about Tim Smiths defencive problems, why isnt he hiding him around the paddock like Parra did or what the Wests Tigers do with Benji Marshall. Or have another player as a defensive minder like Tonnie Carrol was to Darren Lockyer.

I think I remember reading that Saints were after Rob Burrow. Orford I think would fit in well at St Helens.

Johnathon Thurston is off contract at the end of next year.

It wasn't so much that, it's just that Long is no longer one of the top halves in the league so I can't understand why someone said he should go to play in the NRL. It's like someone a bit ago on the NRL board who was talking about Fielden like he was still one of the top English props. It's just something that winds me up.

With regards to Long's replacement, I seriously doubt St Helens will sign any overseas players to replace him. They do not usually look for quick fixes with 30+ year old Australians, and this is what sets them apart from clubs like Wigan and Warrington. I imagine one of Kyle Eastmond or Gary Wheeler will step up.

Has to be Eastmond, it's time SL clubs starting trusting players like him to take the club forward.
On the weekend he scored an 80 metre try, kicked 8 goals from 8 and won man of the match - he is a real talent.

Playing for the Roosters isn't much of an achievement...

He has a shocking passing game. Being able to throw a ball 30 metres doesn't make a good passing game. Every now and than he threw a great ball the rest of the time he just kept chucking it when he shouldn't have.

He won't run the ball.

He goes missing all the time (until the attack is on the line and he want's to try and create a try then he becomes a ball hog).

Hes turns the ball on the inside basically every time he gets it.

Hes not a team player, he only cares when he creates a try the rest of the time he couldn't care less.He blames everyone else when theres a mistake.

He is a terrible defender.

He is also a choker. Parramattas effort in 2005 was one of the biggest chokes i've ever seen.

You do know that 05 was his rookie year.

One of Tim Smiths biggest critisisms was that he kept going from side to side so Im not sure where you got the inside ball thing.

And you call him a ball hog but also say that he never runs with the ball. Which is it?

Long is just to old now. He has a lost about 2 yards of pace which hurts his game.

Can't really comment about his age much anymore though as it seems Wire are signing that new wonder kid Brian Carney... :sarcasm:

I was actually quite excited when I heard the rumour Carney was coming back. :D

When the team is in a sh*t position he has hardly anything to do with the play. The moment they get near the try line he gets all over the ball every play trying to create a try. The advantage for him is it leads to quite a few try assists. The problem for the team is if Tim Smith can't crate a try than the team most likely won't score one.
