Season 2023

A good week just got better for Wests Tigers with the club signing one of the best utility backs in the Queensland Cup - immediately.

Wynnum's Tony Pellow, a 26-year-old who can play fullback, centre and halfback, is expected to make his debut in the NSW Cup next weekend.

His arrival coincides with a massive week for the Tigers in which they knocked off premiers Penrith in what some critics are calling the upset of the decade.

A Dubbo junior, Pellow played for St George Illawarra in the NSW Cup before stints with the Brisbane Tigers and Wynnum in Queensland.

He came to the attention of Tigers scouts in the sunshine state with his form for Wynnum this season and has signed with the club until the end of 2024.

He is expected to put the pressure on Luke Brooks - who ironically played his best game for several seasons in the Penrith boilover - and could also challenge for the fullback spot, although the Tigers have found a real prospect there in 21-year-old Kiwi Jahream Bula.

I thought they had their 30?

Did we replace Ken?

It would be criminal if Tigers are chasing a 26 year old ex rugby player from Q Cup and have not approached Connor Tracey who is a dead set first grader killing it every week in Reggies.

Brayden Trindall also may not be willing to wait for Moyza to move on.

Both would be awesome additions to a backline that has been finding it hard to score.

South Sydney have been issued with a breach notice which proposes a $15,000 fine for two infringements from the club during their victory over the Brisbane Broncos in Round 9.

The NRL has accused the Rabbitohs of deviating from their final team list, which was submitted an hour before kickoff, while also committing an interchange error that resulted in 14 players briefly being on the field.

What is the cost of victory worth?

So we signed a bloke so good that at 26 has never played first grade and had no one else chasing him,. Despire all that the club expects us to believe he is expected to put pressure on Brooks, hahahahahaha.
You couldn't make this shit up in you had a hollywood writers in a room for a month.

Though, TBF, I don't think it would be that hard to put the pressure on Brooks?

IMO, Wakeham is showing some spirit and is already doing that with only a few games under his belt?

They are on strike so the Tigers are using a work experience kid, yet again, to write all press releases.

It must be a second tier contract surely. Didn’t Bula signing fill up our top 30?

It's not so much the signing but that we talk it up unnecessarily that annoys me.
No need to do that, then they back peddle and duck when they rightly get hammered for it. That and we have so many leaks.

Head of High-Performance Peter Moussa provides an injury update heading into Saturday’s Round 11 match against South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Adam Doueihi has undergone stage one of his ACL reconstruction process in Melbourne. The second stage of this reconstruction is yet to be advised, but he is unavailable for the remainder of the 2023 season.

Charlie Staines is recovering after undergoing surgery two weeks ago to repair a perforated bowel. He has a review with his specialist in two weeks, when a return to play date will be advised.

Papali’i has point to prove to critics

Isaiah Papali’i wants to continue proving to his critics that his decision to leave grand finalists Parramatta for the struggling Wests Tigers isn’t a mis-step in his career.

Papali’i will look to help the Tigers to a third-straight win for the first time since 2018 when they take on South Sydney this weekend.

But 12 months on from announcing his departure from the Eels, the New Zealand international is still grilled by supporters over his decision to join the struggling Tigers.

“I still get it now, it’s just fans and I guess everyone’s got their biased opinions,” Papali’i said.

“I think I have got to prove to all the doubters out there that coming here was the right move.

“I feel like we’re heading on the right track.

“I think I knew coming into a new environment, I was ready to step out of my comfort zone.

“That comes with the pressure of people leaning on you and looking to you in certain moments.”

Papali’i earned a reputation as a rampaging back-rower under Brad Arthur’s guidance at Parramatta.

But this year he has yet to register a single linebreak across eight games.

“I feel I’m getting better each week, I was trying to get my fitness back in the first few weeks,” he said.

“I have had to simplify my job and I feel that in the last couple of games I’ve been more effective in my role.”

After knocking off Penrith and fellow strugglers St George Illawarra in recent weeks, Papali’i said the prospect of upsetting second-placed Souths held no fear for the Tigers.

“They are the hunted and we are the hunters,” Papali’i said.

“We are at the bottom but we’re on our way up.

“There’s no better challenge than going up against the form team in the comp and I think all the boys are really excited.”

I genuinely feel that are issue isn't any sort of drop in form with our players, it's simply a lack of team cohesion and dumb choices from our halves.

With a bit more time playing together and an increase in footy smarts from the halves we could easily see Ice return to his barnstorming days

Yep, it’s quite noticeable how the team is improving with the halves finally doing what they should be doing, along with our new FB who is going to be sensational if he continues.

You’re getting a lot of captains coming, though we have had 5 in the past?
