I like most are really looking forward to watching our younger players today. However nothing would please me more than to see a stronger and more confident Charlie Staines. He is definitely a match winner!

Sounds worth it

One of the most gorgeous girls I have ever seen. Absolutely stunningly beautiful. It probably was worth it.
Matt Moylan was capable of better things, he either as a result of injury or perhaps not properly applying himself didn’t achieve the heights he should have. It is a shame, but I can’t help feeling he only has himself to blame.

Yep, he had the skills and vision of an elite ball player, top Tier - but his arrogance, laziness and possibly genetics has let him down. I ironically still think that halfback is his best position so long as his 5/8 has a decent long boot.

Thoughts?

Predicted Panthers team: 1. Dylan Edwards 2. Charlie Staines 3. Stephen Crichton 4. Izack Tago 5. Brian To’o 6. Jarome Luai 7. Nathan Cleary 8. Moses Leota 9. Apisai Koroisau 10. James Fisher-Harris 11. Viliame Kikau 12. Liam Martin 13. Isaah Yeo 14. Mitch Kenny 15. Scott Sorensen 16. Spencer Leniu 17. J’maine Hopgood

Team Tips: The Panthers will be sweating on their star halfback Nathan Cleary after he underwent shoulder surgery during the off-season. Cleary is desperate to play in Round 1, but should coach and dad Ivan decide to take it slow, it’ll be new recruit Sean O’Sullivan stepping in to replace him. After starting last season on the wing and then being axed, Charlie Staines, who played fullback in the trial against the Sharks, is expected to get another chance on the wing with Stephen Crichton shifting back to his native centre role after Paul Momirovski’s departure. Young gun Izack Tago is tipped to replace Matt Burton in the centres, while youngster J’maine Hopgood could snatch a spot on the bench. Viliame Kikau will also return to the starting team after playing an explosive role off the bench late last season. Dylan Edwards and James Fisher-Harris will be back to full fitness after carrying injuries in the grand final. Preston Riki is out until mid-season with a hip injury.

Who covers back due to injury in that side?

Starting side is spot on. O'Sullivan for Cleary if Cleary is held back
Leinu and Sorensen will be there. The last 2 bench spots are up for grabs

Yep this is why I think Salmon is a almost a shoe in, gives us the flexibility we need from the bench.

I think Kenny had one scoot on the weekend, no kicks. So for me he needs time at hooker if he is going to develop enough to possibly be an option next year. NSW Cup is best for him unless Api is out

Doesn't really phase me who is the other forward as they likely get minimum minutes. Maybe we change it every few weeks so players develop

I'm not a fan of Kenny on the bench he can only cover hooker and is a small body.Much prefer salmon instead who can cover a number of positions and is much bigger than Kenny the last spot on the bench I would go lindsay Smith for now till riki 8s available.

I reckon this is our best 17 and what we should run with for round 1 assuming everyone is fit. Having said that the number of middles in the bench is somewhat concerning. Interested to see how Sorensen goes on an edge in the trial.

Sean O'Sullivan needs to be in the side. That will offer a fresh attack option.

Agree with 16 of them just not Kenny we don't need 2 hookers in the team makes the bench small also.Lindsay smith has to be there hopgood could be the utility and cover hooker if need be he's bigger and stronger than Kenny.
