Season Review

The review is nothing more than a stunt to try and placate the angry masses of which I am one.
I'm voting with my feet.
I will not attend another match until Mary is gone.
I've been a supporter for a long time but my love of the Saints and Rugby League has dwindled.
I used to watch every game I could but now get more enjoyment out of washing the car or mowing the lawn.
We all know the outcome of the review before it even happens.
We are a club that's just happy to survive.

Well said St Tangles....I think you will find that there are many of us who feel the same way.........

The Game is losing its appeal... same teams have an unfair advantage with TPA's....the game is not what it used to be...sad times indeed.

Well my bet is that we are about to let Mary go and hire Barrett as head coach. Apparently Hornby and Young are also leaving.

Just my opinion not confirmed anywhere but has been repeated a few times by a group of friends who are all mad St George fans/members.

I don’t think Mary is going anywhere Barrett will come in as an assistant of the assistant hope I’m made to eat my words although I don’t think Barrett is great his better than what we have ...

So we have salary cap problems, losing Jdb and widdop while the roosters can sign whoever they want?
Just another part of the nrl that i'm fed up with, let alone Mary being coach.

With all the juniors that we have did we really need to sign Maranta, Kafusi, Nicolls, just to name a few, to rarely play first grade and play rubbish when they do anyway .... there's your answer

I agree with you. It is one thing if we are relying on juniors who are years away from being ready but Robson, Timm, Masters have what it takes to play well in reserve grade and could very well step up into first grade. Maranta is really not fit for first grade, Aitken and Lafai are no long suitable for first grade, Allgood and Latimore are past it.

I think we would have done better with Timm rather than Latimore and now need to promote Sailor to 4, move Ravalawa to 3, promote Saab to 5 and move Lomax to 1. Keep this backline for the rest of the season and see how these players develop in their roles. We have absolutely nothing to lose as our season is over and a least we would know if we want to keep them by the end of this season.

A real mess has been created with our roster. It has been said on other posts that we need to make room under the cap. Well there is plenty of deadwood we can get rid of to solve that problem.

I wonder what consultant or external person from the other end of the globe with a degree in confusing businesses this time is to conduct and provide the review recommendations.
What about Mick Crawley..was'nt he our boards whisperer on all things coaching.
He sits next to him every game...WTF is he doing.

Dont discount mick Crawley having more input to game day coaching from here on

Yes but we dont want to fall into the trap of having to pay players we move on so we have to look at contracts expiring and move them on once that happens.
remember i can't remember Normans deal but i bet it wasn't much and that would need to be looked at and increased soon. So do we pay Widdop dollars to keep him ??? if so there's a huge bite out of our cap.

I'm backing it will be a Claytons review with a full media release of pure spin. Fingers will be pointed and in the end it will be Mick Crawley, some physiotherapist and a strapper will cop the blame and be marched at seasons end. Another successful review by the Old Boys Brigade.

Sailor will play 1 or 6. 1 is his preference..no where near a centre
Lomax 3 or 4, Rav will stay on wing due to his try scoring feats
You want Hunt at 9, Ford at 4, McInnes as 13 for this year
Your just as bad as Mary suggesting everyone play out of their preferred and best position
I agree with your deadwood comments.
We just need to buy a good fricken centre for next year to support Lomax...they are the cheapest backline position

The Norman deal is for 750k over 3 years. He replaces Widdop who is on 950k. Parramatta hve been paying 500k for this year only. So we a least get +200k by replacing Widdop with Norman.

I reckon that some players contracts were front ended for 2019 and as a result we had very little cap space to secure high profile backs. I also believe that given each SOO player receives a bonus from the Club for playing SOO, our cap calculations would be a little bit out even though JDB didn't play for the series and T Sims was rubbed out for game 3. We still had Vaughan, Frizell, Hunt and Norman play games.

Front ending some players contract for 2019 should give us extra space for 2020, maybe enough to pay a small fee to offload Aitken and Lafai. If not they will just have to play reserve grade.

We are paying both Norman and Widdop at the moment which is about $1.15 million. Next year we have Norman which was reported as $700K, that means there will be approx. $450K freed up.

If you look at all the NRL clubs 600k & above players , about 50% of them would be showing nowhere near value for money. Thats why the good coaches are worth the money. They make 350k players give 600k value on the field.

Look I have not seen enough of CC this year compared to last to make informed judgment on all their players but as we have cap trouble this is how i would shape the roster for 2020.
I am relying on others comments for the CC personnel to keep
I would straight away 1 october get the full 500-600K whatever it is on JDB and tell him we will sign you again in 2021 but your not playing in 2020 as we cant take the risk not knowing when and if your court case is done & dusted to play or to still be free. Get the salary cap dispensation from the NRL in full by Nov 1 2019...then

No 1. If Dufty is to be moved on release him...sign an average but solid fullback. Keep Sailor as a back up for 1 or 6
No. 2.. Release Pearson..find another winger. Saab as back up
No 3. Lomax
No 4. Sign a decent centre. Release Lafai & Aitken.
No 5. Rav
6 & 7 no change
Forwards. Same..Keep Kerr and Timm..keep Graham as back up even for Reggies
Sign a decent prop
Release Host, Allgood, Latimore

So we need to target better depth but if Dufty proves by years end not up to it i would be releasing
Dufty, Field, Kaufusi, Maranta, Nicholls, Pearson, Lafai, Aitken, Host, Allgood, Latimore + Widdop gone & JDB cap dispensation in ful
Resign Kerr, Timm if not already gone (Hayden Lomax?..or is he already signed), Sailor (not big $$$)
Then sign a decent 1st grade fullback, centre & prop
use our development players as extra back up and sign some better depth with money left over if we have
Clue...Manly need to offload some to fit the Turbos in from 2020 on

I believe Tristan Sailor contract completes this year yet no retention talk in keeping him. What's doing Millward?
