Second Brisbane Club

I believe if there ever is a second Brisbane club like the Brisbane Bombers bid that vast majority of broncos supporters and members will stay on board of this great club.

I believe that the broncos fans and qlders in general are very loyal and will not jump ship like some other fans from other clubs in the NRL.

Only thing it could hurt the broncos wise is the broncos player talent pool in the Brisbane are and qld in general that is about it, but we will still be the biggest club in the NRL.

What are everyone else's thoughts?

you are right . get rid of titans , and maybe those peski cowboys. leave broncos alone ;-)

It'll be more successful and have a greater following than the soulless Titans at least. Start with a QLDer coach and Qld marquee players.

In hindsight, i feel like it would have been the better option to link with the Burleigh Bears and pretend the new GC team was a promotion of this old QLD Cup team....

Even if no one cared about the club before, the club has been around for 80 years; just the illusion of history would have been valuable in creating the NRL clubs "soul".

So.. Gold Coast Bears then? Hmm.. could work.

Might have to adopt a different colour scheme to avoid clashes with Manly - red & black perhaps? ;)

Titans deny any chance of move

Gold Coast chief executive Graham Annesley insists the Titans are going nowhere despite suggestions the club could be packed up and shifted an hour up the road should the NRL have to step in with financial support.
On a day in which an independent review into the running of the club was handed down, the Titans downplayed reports that they could become a de facto second Brisbane side if NRL boss Dave Smith was forced to put an independent board in place, as is the case at the Wests Tigers and Newcastle Knights.
The NRL has signalled it will review its expansion plans at the end of the current season, with a second team in the monopolised Brisbane market high on the list of priorities for both the governing body and host broadcaster Nine.
But Annesley said that second team wouldn't be a relocated Titans, despite the club continuing to struggle in the notoriously difficult Gold Coast market, which remains a difficult sell for any of the football codes.

The NRL are sitting on a Goldmine in Brisbane, the thing that clouds them is the Sydney bubble.
15 massive Brisbane derbies could be added to the game each year. Move the Titans to Logan, league heartland, stop the AFL from syphoning Logan's funds , and bring in the bombers and allow up to 15 Queensland derbies all playing out of Suncorp.

Then the game will be saying Gold Coast who?
This is a holiday city, not a footy city. Time someone woke up.
Logan is only 50 miles up the road, but the support is here, in Logan, not on the coast. the coast is a feeder club city, nothing more.

Move the Titans to Logan?....And leave the Gold Coast for the AFL?

The Titans ain't moving.A new headquarters will be built at Coomera ,ready for 2016.
Next year the football dept will be stationed at the Southport school and the admin at the GC council offices.

Smith has stated they will not move and are a vital part(the Gold coast) of the future plans, end of story Oikee.

This East Coast name that has been mentioned previously (Tigers was it?) is terrible. 13/16 existing clubs are on the east coast, with Canberra and Melbourne still "east". The game exists primarily on the east coast. West Coast Pirates only works because they will be the sole team there if they ever eventuate, even then I'd prefer the name Perth.

New Zealand Warriors should still be called Auckland. I realise it was an ownership change that led to name change, but still, what happens when we get a second team. Besides "New Zealand" should only be used for the representative team.

Personally, I like teams to be named after their specific area. Even the Cowboys should be called Townsville. I understand trying to appeal to a wider demographic, but that's where they play. Back when it was a Sydney club competition, I wasn't excluded from being a Canterbury fan because I lived near Newcastle. The worst thing they ever did was drop The CB name for just Bulldogs, glad they put it back a few years ago.

Anyway, rant over. Cue the South Sydney at Homebush argument...

yeh, East Coast is shit (South Queensland might work tho)...

I still think the key change needs to be the logo (the teams face/personality). They dont have to change the name, just redo the logo to be a symbol rather than a synopsis (i HATE that bloody "Titans" right through the middle. It destroys an already bad design).

Edit:

They could rip off the hulk...
hulk__avengers_assemble__by_dariobrizuelaartwork-d6bup6j.jpg

they could maintain the mythical gladiator thing...
titan_of_braavos_by_zippo514-d5n4epm.jpg

or they could even go with an actual titan...
Kronos_7.jpg

But their marketing needs to be about associating the club with an image (the logo) rather than just cheating and putting the name through the picture...

So you want to change Rabbitohs to the Redfern Rabbitohs? The Concord Tigers? The Bondi Roosters? Seeing as their other names dont "work" now

No because there is 100 years of history behind them. I am talking about clubs being introduced recently with full knowledge that we are in a different world now, and of which are aware how demographics may change.

North Sydney, South Sydney, Eastern Suburbs and Western Suburbs were formed in 1908 and were legitimate titles for the time. Those clubs had no reason to believe that expansion was a chance in Sydney, let alone outside.

The regional ties are their and should remain for their attachment to history. It doesn't matter if people don't know where they are, they keep the clubs steeped in their history and remind people of their origins.

Look at it this way, how many people world wide do you think would know that "Manchester" didn't just refer to bedding if it wasn't for their soccer clubs? Not many... In fact plenty of their foreign "fans" would still have a lot of trouble placing them on a map without help.

It's success, personalities and history that gives a club its fans, reputation and brand awareness.

I say keep the original names, as that's where the history is. Roosters should be "Eastern Suburbs" or "Eastern Sydney" at the very least.

I agree. Roosters should still employ the Easts name. Although not a fan of it, the original Sydney City name change at least attempted to pinpoint a specific part of town. The name Sydney, although perhaps implying CBD, may also be regarded as the greater Sydney metro area, and there are 8 other clubs who could also lay claim to the name. Thankfully, Balmain and Canterbury reversed their changes after only a short time.

This classic match from Rd 4 1996 shows me that Brisbane is more than capable of sustaining a 2nd team. Great crowd at the old Suncorp Stadium. Does anyone remember this game?
