i think BS was a smart and good coach,

but i believe his methods have become stale and outdated and his PR skills with players have become so degraded that he should be removed purely on that basis

PR skills with players ???

Players arn't the public, and don't need public relations skills,

Relationary skills are something else, but if we are refering to Witts coments, I haven't been around but I am sure I said before I left that Smith is on Surfing Safari in a secret location with his Daughter. So if that secret location is anywhere but Sydney (highly unlikely) he can't exactly get back to say to a player, sorry son but your not in our program for 2005.

not quite right, Mark

wasn't he released last Wednesday and signed with Moanly on the Thursday?...if so what was Brian doing at the presentation night on Friday? he had to have been in sydney.

Hey old timer...... ever hear of a plane? They make travel between cities a lot quicker. You can be in Brisbane at 11am, board a plane and land in Sydney at lunchtime all being well.....

;-)

Hindy was at the Presentation Dinner on Friday night and in Townsville the next day..... :-k

your not to far away from me buddy boy!!! ;-)

in terms of age that is! :D :D

Mark,

perhaps PR skills wasn't the best choice of a term, but i think you knew what i meant.....the ability to get along with players and coach them and nurture them

Modern day players are proving to be big pussies.....what's all this "nurturing" crap? - they are getting paid plenty to play the game they love.....modern day players need to be told to get their frickin fingers out!!!

He's their bloody boss - not their best buddy....if they can't handle/understand that relationship then they can get nicked! ....you think Ricky "God" Stuart doesn't give his players a good hard dose of "wake up and smell the coffee" occaisionally?

of course he has to be tough with them.....he isn't tough enough in my opinion

my point is more related to working with them and giving them time instead of getting the shits with some and sgipping them off and allowing others like Burt and Vella all the time in the world to overcome injury and poor form.....

maybe the coach needs some wake up and smell the coffee too?????

Well for the guys u mentioned...

Yeah I think Burt struggled a fair bit last season, but the season before he was probably our best player for the first 5 weeks until he got injured....and he was playing bloody well this season until he got nailed by Buderus and it knocked the confidence out of him....I have a feeling he might come good again in a team with confidence.

Vella - yeah he's hot and cold....but i think he had as much if not more consistancy than most of our forwards last season.

I think Smithy DOES give guys time to develop - in premier league, where people are supposed to develop.....but that doesn't wash these days - young guys want to be in the top grade immediately cos they see others up there.

Yes we ship alot of players off, but most aren't performing anyway - people want a premiership well having "toilers" won't get that.....the fui fuis, stapletons, hopkins, witts, etc (while good workers who play with passion which will all love) are not the firepower we need....we need someone who can stand up and be a game winner.....and I reckon we need it soon (like the next 2 or 3yrs) cos the likes of Caylo and Hindy are at their peak now (well when they are on the field).

I agree Smithy needs to take stock of what is happening and maybe adjust a little to the "sooky" players, but as always I don't know exactly what happens in the club, so its hard to conclusively say he is doing things wrong or right.

Smith is past his use by date,He did well early on at Parramatta but when you keep a player like Luke Burt and release someone like Willie Tonga then questions should be asked.

I always thought Tonga was a Gun and didnt like the idea of him being released. And well as you know the rest is history.

Parra won't make the 8 again untill Smith and Fitzgearld are shown the door.

And Clintion S My god,Did he ever play a bad game for us? He was Parramatta's best player in 1999-2000. HUGE LOSS i rate him over Hodgson,Burt or McKinnon any day.

AM, Yeah Schifcofske played a bad game for us, 1998 SF against the Dogs, He was the one that missed all the tackles for the Dogs to Score the 2 or three tries, Watch the Replay if you can bear it.

For the year after that he was nowhere in attack and ran like a crab. Don't get me wrong I was a huge fan of chock and rate him quite highly. But at the time he went he was not performing.

FACT: Parramatta did NOT "release" Willie Tonga....he was offered a contract comparable to his Bulldogs contract, however he had 2 International centres infront of him - Lyon and Vaealiki....so he chose to leave and take his chances elsewhere.
