I believe Steelers junior rep trials are on the 8th October, invite only (clubs have nominated players).

Group 7 development squads played St George development squads last weekend, heard group 7 teams were to strong.

16’s won by 50 or so…not sure of scores in other ages…
Im no expert regarding the juniors squads, but the Dragons side has been poor for a long time, its time that we put more into it, scouting juniors from the nearby by teams like Dogs, Souths, Sharks and put them in the Dragons side not Illawarra, it can only be to our benefit if we invest more time and effort..

The St.George squads were pure ‘development squads’ made up of local players only - from 13’s to 16’s. St.George district has a pathways group of selected local 15/16”s totalling about 25 kids that is not part of this development group. There is a massive drop-off in player numbers at this age as the kids think they didn’t make it. This set-up is trying to reverse this trend & keep the kids in the game for longer.

The selected pathways group train separately & actually provided good representation in the recent Rep trials & teams posted above. Kids are indeed recruited/poached at this slightly elevated level.

While I agree with your comments we have to be careful not to compare apples with oranges.

If you look at the Dragons HM 2023 side that has already happened.

Stand corrected but wasnt Willie Flegg coach last season. So he goes down one level.. sounds like a demotion. Surely not when he took Flegg to the prelim final.. think it was.
Yes he was. He now has responsibility for Pathways as well as this specific role. You”d have to ask Willie if he considers this a demotion. Too hard to judge without knowing his goals & ambitions.

Which 'set up' is that. I must've missed the early post explaining it..
Referring to the previous content in the paragraph where the quote is taken from. That is, the structure of the St.Beorge development squads & the separation of the older pathway players in the gala day matches. Gameday performance must take this into account when playing other ‘development squads’.
