Shannon McDonnell determined to make the most of opportunity

McDonnell was playing like a man possessed!

Although he bombed that bloody line break near the end of the game! Badly. Though we got away with it.

I guess the best way to view McDonnell is, ' thanks for helping out, but now that Gids is back, enjoy the rest of the year at Nelson Bay ' ...

This prevents the imminent implosion.

Kinda off topic but Sau is definately the wrong centre partner for Aku... Sau I must admit is looking a bit flat at the moment, mabye due to his one dimensional playing style but isnt effective enough nor is his style getting the most out of Aku. Aku has been playing great last couple of weeks and his positioning tonight was marvellous apart from the Monas try, then again Monas is actally pretty good in the air so cant really blame Aku...

Aku holding off the centre and showing the winger the sideline was really good so was his knock on, classic coach killer. What do you guys think about Sau?

Sau was reasonable enough I think in a game where we rarely ventured out of our own 20. Didn't seem like the kind of game for effective one-out running.

Other than that, he seemed to run well enough given a bit of space and was judicious in his passing... at least I think he was passing, maybe they were lucky knock-ons

I thought Sau was fine last night.

McDonnell was good.

Karma, maybe that implosion is just not going to come. When he was signed a lot of people, including yourself were predicting disaster from him. So far he has done his job well.

And like some sort of curse, Aku still got his support play incorrect on McDonnells kick returns. It is just staggering.

He did some things well last night. He did some things poorly. I cant blame him for the try, impossible get for him under the circumstances.

He has been in NRL for most of the season now. Shows glimpses of brilliance, but still makes a mess of the simple stuff. Its about time he got that right and started taking the steps required for him to reach his potential.

He's already had 1 disaster in his 4 games. With only Manu's concrete hands saving him from being posterized for eternity in the NRL blunder of the year scrapbook.

I appreciate the solid football he has played filling in with Kurt Gidley, but now Gids is back, he can go back to Nelson Bay please BEFORE he gets the chance for implosion #2 against a side who makes us pay for it. He even had a semi disaster last night when he found space and would have bombed a certain try if we didn't get lucky and Naiqama ended up scoring.

32 games of implosions, bumbles and stumbles for the Tigers ( and the woeful Manu mistake ) is a better reflection on what you can expect from McDonnell long term than one or two solid games at the back filling in for Kurt Gidley.

People will think I'm being harsh on him, but its just the reality of his career, and his mistakes already are being overlooked just because he is SOLID.

He did his job, and he's done it well, but as far as I'm concerned, it should be ' thanks Shannon we really appreciate it, enjoy Nelson Bay '.

100% agree with these comments. Thanks for coming mate but you can impress NRL talent scouts in the Real NRL from now own.

he's been an able fill-in for gids. had a great game last night i thought, but i still wouldn't like to be the team that had him as it's first string fullback.

i think he has done what he was required to do.

I dont think we can ask for much more than that.

I've seen him play some excellent footy for the Tigers. You take too much notice of their whinging fans. He had a form slump in a team that was playing rubbish. He's still only 21. Just because he has already played a significant amount of first grade doesn't mean he can't improve his consistency. He has already shown plenty of talent. The fact that he has already experienced a good deal of NRL at a young age should actually be an indication to you that the bloke can play.

Having said all of that, not sure whether he's the right fit for our team to look at signing long-term.

As Pika says He's done everything asked of him here. I think he's been more than an adequate replacement for Kidley. Had another good game v Raiders.

Don't take the bait Knights. A couple of "solid" games and only one major implosion so far. Why not give the goose a contract for 2010? Better still, sign him for three years. Sharron is mediocrity personified - and that would be one of his better seasons.
