Sharks fans: "There was no evidence they took PEDs".

Everyone else: "they confessed. Confessions are evidence".

Sharks fans: "yeah, well, nah. Not that sort of evidence".

Actually they didn’t confess.

They just took the plea deal of a 3 week ban.
Gallen actually went on record and denied he took any banned substance.

Confessed to using what exactly the WADA (ASADA) people didn't have a f**king clue themselves, I would have chosen a lighter penalty....

You're not this dense. Surely.

C’mon now .

They had to take the deal or (for some ) lose their entire careers.
ASADA offered them a pissweak plea deal which meant they’d miss 3 games.
Where in history of drugs in sport is that even an option???
It’s not.
If they had proof they were guilty they would’ve been banned for 2 years.

Surely you don’t think ASADA were just being good blokes?

All that time and money for that?

Hahaha

"ASADA has told Aiton, Flanagan and Williams that they are not eligible for the deal, which saw the other dozen Sharks players accept backdated 12 month bans in exchange for confessions that they were treated with banned peptides CJC — 1295 and GHRP-6."

I don't think the implication is that the players knowingly doped, but they confessed to being treated with the items that contained doping materials.

How do you not knowingly know you are taking something that you don’t know what it is...without knowing?

I see the point of some of what you are saying. But to say "they didn't confess" and then say "they took the plea deal" is f**king moronic.

Have the bookies stopped betting on the wooden spoon for 2019? With Todd claiming any breaches will incur points deductions it could be a no brainer for Cronulla, even with their wonder kid halfback signing.

Fingers crossed sponsors flee, crowds collapse and the club goes to join Harold Holt...

You can’t differentiate between the two things?

Under massive duress with a gun at their heads they took the deal.
The f**king deal of the century.

None of them came out on Oprah and actually confessed to being on the juice .

Well I wouldn't call it a confession as such, its more like agreed facts tendered to the court - most likely drafted by ASADA. Of course it was to settle the matter. I think the terms were being unknowingly and unwittingly administered the 2 things for a 4 week period in 2011.

I think Flanno and Elkin getting done for exposing players to possible breaches of the NRL Anti-doping Rules speaks volumes.

You seem to have a fair idea of the legal system.

Surely you'd agree that a set of agreed facts is a confession? I mean, it's confessing to a lesser crime, but still a confession by definition.

I'm not saying that they didn't have massive incentives to do so, but they confessed.

I can't answer that (nor can you). My best guess is that they were possibly told it was something else.

Why no positive test though?

Did any of Danks AFL players ever test positive?

I’m not being a smart arse
I’m serious.
Nor am I - but the confession they made negated the need for any evidence of a positive test to ever see the light of day. Neither you nor I know whether that was the case, we can only make assumptions or speculate, which will largely depend on our position.

As a Sharks fan you're within your rights to believe they did so under duress and may have been completely innocent; while others will believe that because they confessed, there would have to have been some level of evidence that made them complicit in some way, shape or form.

I find unbelievable that wada asada and whoever else would let the entire team off with such a lenient ban if they had any proof.
No way.
They’ve banned plenty of bigger names in sport.
Much much bigger.
Why go easy on the sharks?

Nup.
I can only think they probably had sweet f**k all evidence.

Lucky the daily Telegraph was there to hammer the club everyday for nearly two years though.
That probably helped getting them to to accept the ban just to end the shit.

In a technical sense, its a confession as its a statement against their interests. But its so obviously tied up to the settlement of the case that its not a very satisfactory one to hang anyone's hat on.
