You need am mixture. Size won't make the forwards better. Fitness, game plan will make the forwards effective. Buying big boys isn't gonna help anyone. Look at Roosters, Their forwards arn't that big at all but are very effective

Sure. Bit of everything helps. But like they say `Size does matter'. It nearly makes me cry when I see a bloke like Nuts start the game only to see his hit-ups relatively ineffective (due to his size IMO). It was different when he came off the bench to confront tiring opposition forwards. He'd tear them apart then.
Sure, there is a 110% effort there but I guess the results of that and others reflect in our position on the competition ladder last year. Add that effort to a lot more size and the outcome should be much more positive.
Please don't use the Warriors as an example of the other side of the debate (e.g. all size and stuff all effort).

I really am worried about missed tackles in the middle , Nuts giving away penalties , Bailiy being easily read, Peach doing all the work and more, Gallen tackling till he drops and Dykes kicking the ball out on the full, but I have paid up for next season tickets . There is somthing about living in the Shire you just keep supporting the team ,buying the gear , going to Shark Park, the beach, the National Park and its great. Ok I know we havent won a premiership but we will . Very sweet it will be too!

i like you optimism c-shark. We need more of it. I whole heartedly agree with dykes kicking out on the full. One of my favourite pastimes was waiting for him to do it.

A season pass for 2006 might be a big call, as we may be playing the up central coast.

Last year I saw a game where he ran from the middle of the feild ( with the ball) and managed to go over the sideline without a hand being layed on him. It was quite remarkable.

we should give dykes a chance. When hes on hes on, nothing needs to be said when he is off. I can still hear the echoes from the hill of the DYKES with a number of expletives at any stage of the game.

His final year with us was outstanding, lets hope he can rekindle some of this form. For both his and rapers sake

I watched that game.
he ran past all of the forwards & asked each one if they would like to run straight & take the ball off him. They all declined. left him posted. Ray Warrent gave his usual response to the limited knowledge of the game & said he had to run straight.
Straight where Ray?

Dykes is one of the best 5/8's in the game. Lany said so, & still does, so its true.

the problem with Dykesy has been keeping him on the field.
Part of that can be attributed to trying too hard to do it all by himself. Getting hit by front rowers, making try saving tackles etc. have led to a lot of injuries. Perhaps with a solid team around him(like 2001) we can see the best of him again.

Can we stop talking about '01 it makes cry everytime, possibly the best team we've ever had and we were unravelled by johns' high ball tactics.

The 01 Dykes season was his best . I really liked the way he played with the injury at the end it was inspirational. If he can give us that level he wont cop it from me or the HILL, but if he kicks the bloody ball out on the full he is ****ed. I still think Gallen is the better option in both attack and defence. An extra big defender takes the strain off other forwards.A big attacking 5/8 can run the angle close to the line and barge over where as the lighter is held out and has to play the ball. I like Quigs 's 25 blokes who can biff and rotate suspentions and yes lets smash manly again this year if nothing else!

Anderson tried the bulk over quality tact with Tweedle and Wessel. Brian Smith made the same mistake last year. Size, mobility, skill and quality is what you need. It seems that only the Roosters and Dogs have the cash to afford such luxuries.
