The account on the social networking website Twitter, which had attracted hundreds of Saints followers and rugby league journalists, initially sparked interest, however the increasingly eccentric tone of the comments quickly led to suspicions.
In his latest tweets, supposedly from Australia, the mysterious poster wrote:” You all think cunningham has retired. Its a mind game i learnt from tim.”
Saints confirmed on Wednesday morning that the account “is a fake”.
