Sheens set to renew

I cant believe some of you are criticising Sheens. Sure, we havent be performing to our best this season but we have had a serious injury in every game including trials, no coach can keep the team performing to the high standards fans expect with such bad luck.. and this is putting aside referee and officials screwing us over.

Winning the sevens doesnt mean much particularly, but i know the player who stood out most to me was Pat Richards and I was sure he would star this season but then injury hit.. the same goes for numerous amounts of players.

I think we have to wait and see what Sheens does for the Manly game in regards to wether or not he picks some of the premier league boys before we start criticising him about it.

Our attack and defense have suffered major blows because of injuries and it is not the coaches fault they have got injured, its bad luck.. give sheens a chance and come the second half of season when we get all our players back then we will be able to make a fair decision on him. I know you will think that a coach should be good enough to solve our problems but we havent given him much time, fixing the wests tigers is not going to happen overnight but i think by round 15 until end of season we will be a force, it may be too late for this season (though i still think we might scrape in the 8) i dont know but next season we will be up the top of the ladder.

Max mate - I have no problem giving Roycey his due for some good development work. But the fact remains under his coaching the First Grade side was going backwards. At best he could get them so far and no further. Are you suggesting that if Royce had remained the Panthers would have won the Premiership in 2003? That's a bold bold assertion.

By the same logic the Tigers should have held onto Lamb. After all it was Terry and Langmack sitting with me in the stands at Kogarah watching the Magpies win the 2002 SG Ball premiership (and watching Bryce break Cleals jaw in a totally legitimate front on hit - pure accident I swear). Farah, Halatau, Harrison and all of the rest of the good Balmain players clearly thrived under Terry's tutelage.

You can't have it both ways mate. You can't argue Sheens is the reason for the wonderful development of the talent at the Tigers (which may one day convert itself into two wins in a row  ), and at the same time say that Lang was riding on the coat tails of Simmons good work all the way to the Premiership.

A realistic report card of Sheens so far reads - off-field improvement in terms of PR issues and club perception, on-field still a long long way to go. That ain't worth a two year extension.
No Yappy I am not suggesting in any way that Roycie would have won them the comp. Because you will note that in an early post I said "what would change at Wests Tigers if we had Bennett or Lang as coaches".So for me to even mention him in the same breath as Bennett obviously I hold Lang in high regard. But I am some what perplexed by the amount of Sheensey bashing that has been banded around over one major loss last weekend, when it has been well documented a million times that we are running out of frickin troops due to injury. I mean Easts have lost a couple of games without there top team on the park and they still boast names like Minichiello,fittler,walker,cross,Ricketson,Morley,hodges....etc....etc.....etc
and they cannot win.Admittedly they have had stiffer opposition,so how the f*ck are we supposed to win with our injured players that would not even make the roosters bench.

I think you'll find their loss to the Broncos came on the back of play the likes of Crouch against Webcke and Civoneciva (sp).

lets have Snide and Yappy as coach we would be 5-0 then no drama

At the start of the year Sheens would of been looking at

payen
laffranchi
senter

and

pat richards ( the 7th forward) - would of been extremely handy from kick returns and out of dummy half getting out of our own end

these are 4 KEY players who have plyed 2 games in total who would of added alot up front

Where 2 from 5, lost by 8 to the competition leaders, have the worst injury toll of any side, 4 disgraceful video ref calls and time keeping blunders have a whole stack of new players looking to gell.

yeah excuses, excuses i here you saying, but gee it all adds up

im not saying Sheens is the messiah or whatever but geez any club would be doing it tough with our injury toll.

Lang and the panthers havent had to deal with an injury in the best part of 2 years.

Things aint so bad, we cant chop and change coaches every year.

We did go after perry, jobson, kearns and im sure we will go after forwards next yr,.

And hasn't Tim said allalong that 2005 will be the year to see big things from the Tigers? That 2004 will be a consolidating, building year? I still think the Tigers are goingok, even after the big loss last week, which was less than the loss the Knights copped from the Dragons ... good post, Eddie ;-)

Good point,Id forgotten that the Knight got bashed far worse than us and came back and beat the Warriors in NZ.

I think we all have top remember that footy is a week to week proposition. One week you can win by 40,next lose by the same amount.Look at Parra, they got murderd by the Dogs in the first round and sionce then have gone nicely.

As long as we learn from our mistakes, and get a few key troops back soon we should be OK......fingers crossed.

I think you'll find Snide and I are both giving him a go. He has after all been in charge effectively since August 2002. I don't think Snide would argue that he shouldn't be offered a 1 yr extension. I certainly don't. The issue is why 2 years? If as Sheens says 05 is the year, you'll know pretty early on if he's going to be right. Then you can give him another year. BUT WHAT IF IT ISN'T? When will the excuses run out and the requirement to perform start?

You lot have too much blind faith. (you kinda need it to be a Wests or Balmain fan so I understand)

There is alot of support for Sheens - but nobody has come up with any tangible reasons as to why he deserves to be "rewarded" with an extension of contract at this stage.

He was always contracted until then end of 2005 - so we had continuity regardless!!

I would just like to see better results before we start throwing incentives and bonuses at coaches and/or players!!!

I know hes always said that '05 will be the year we see results....hopefully  .....as the original post states....hes been
offered an extension until the end of the 2006 season.
Isnt that a one year extension???
Or if his contract expired at the end of this year, whats he doing
talking bout 2005???
Im lost.

The original post is incorrect in referring to 2006 insane!

The fact is that he was always contracted to the end of 2005 - and it is now being suggested that the club is seeking to reward him with a further two year extension that would take him to the end of 2007!

I would rather we waited until the beginning of next season to view results before making any such commitments!

I thought he was only signed for two originally.

Whatever the case I don't think anyone believes he shouldn't be in charge in 05. It's a non argument.

However, is there anyone who really thinks now is the time to be committing the club to anything beyond next season? What possible harm is there in waiting until May next year to decide if Sheens should remain beyond three years?
