Shihad - Alive

Finally got their new EP in the mail today after a fairly long delay. I just missed out on the first shipment from NZ so I had to wait over a week untill the company recieved new stock.

Aaaaaaaaaanyway its f**king great. Shihad have returned to their old sound. Very heavy and fast. I've had an mp3 of Alive for a while so it's lost its "newness' to me. Hear Me is probably my favourite track.

For $5-$10 I'd say its one of the biggest bargains I've ever come across.

Oh yeh, it isn't released in Oz untill the 14th of this month. Hence the ordering from NZ ;-)

A question for Shihad fans:

Someone asked me the other day what song I was listening to.. and I said Bullitproof by Pacifier.

Obviously I know they're Shihad, but during the period when they WERE Pacifier, should you say that music was by Pacifier or Shihad?

Does anyone follow?

I do. It's six one way, half a dozen the other - but I'd say yes. Pacifier WERE Shihad - the same lineup and sound. At their live concerts (one I'm going to next Friday at the Annandale), they will play songs that were released under the Pacifier name.

However, I have noticed that with the latest edition of Ralph, there is a CD of Australian music - one of the songs is 'Semi Normal' by Shihad - that is actually from the Pacifier CD. So I guess it's a matter of interpretation.

As for "Alive", I will have to wait until Monday to get my hands on it. But the Kiwis definitely get their gear a bit sooner. I was lucky enough to be over there when "Comfort Me" was released - I was in NZ for two weeks, and it came out here the week I came back.

True that.

18th,19th,20th.

I'll be there for the 18th and 20th :D

Kula..

If I was writing about a song released by Shihad on the Pacifier album, I'd say (for eg) Pacifier - Trademark. If I'm talking in person about a Pacifier song it falls under the same category as Shihad. Mainly because I can't be arsed calling it a Pacifier song. That leads onto naive morons asking why did they change their name etc.

I will never ever refer to them as Pacifier - always Shihad, and refer to it as the "Pacifier" album...

The less said about that era the better. They sound like thye are back in form after the speedbump that was their last album...

So true there.

Alive was a huge relief imo. You could tell a naive Shihad fan that it was released inbetween Churn and Killjoy and they wouldn't be able to argue at all.

Not saying that I don't like the Pacifier album, heck there are some top songs on it (Comfort Me,Semi-Normal,Stranger,Everything,Run). But for me the name "Pacifier" stinks of how the band tried to sell out imo, or at least drop everything for the juggernaut of the US market. Which isn't what Shihad were about.

A challenge for all the Had fans here, name your top 25 songs :D

Devolve is their first release, but Churn their first album?

Correct, Devolve was a 4 track EP, not bad although very derivative of Metallica/Anthrax. I've got it on vinyl somewhere.

Yup! I ordered it from smokecds a few months ago. Not exactly my type of thing but its good for obsession purposes. I can now say I own every album/EP Shihad have released. Now its time for the Singles and somehow the early demo's ive been hearing about.
