Suprised so many people are defending him, guess channel 9's campaign worked. He plays tough for the most part but is just a cheap shot artists once his team starts struggling. Thing that gets me he is the first one to cry to the media whenever something similar happens against him or his team

I would say 6-8 weeks in the NRL for a shot like that, blatant swinging arm on player in a defenceless position. Not sure how it will play out being an international game.

Not much in it, one week, didn't look too bad as far as high shots go.

Not sure if Voss new anything but he was saying the trainers/meds said Thaiday thought he was in Austria when he woke up

Cocked swinging arm with full force connected flush in the head of an opponent, don't know how it could look any worse

But what would a player get if it happened in Origin? Cheap shots seem to be condoned more in Origin than they do the NRL.

Origin is refereed like international rugby league. Thats why its so physical and intense. The Refs put away the whistle 90% of the time in SOO/International Rugby league compared to a normal NRL game where they blow a penaltys constantly.

That's what I'm getting at. What gets penalised or punished in the NRL doesn't necessarily warrant the same in SoO so I can't understand all the whinging about six week bans etc. at international level. I'm not condoning Burgess's actions. I'm just pointing out that not all crimes get punished equally at various levels of the game.

Aussies saying Sam Burgess should of been sent off for the high shot yesterday. Well I say Sam Thaiday should of been sent off for sleeping on the pitch.

That's how it looked to me. He hit Thaiday right in the jaw, no "bounced up off the ball" it was flush on. He should have been marched for it by Perenara took the soft option of putting him on report. We won't know till 11.00 pm (AEDT) today whether Burgess will be charged or not.

If you think hitting someone in the head is ok in rugby league, then you have confused the sport with boxing.

Going by this article in today's Sydney Morning Herald, Thaiday will be out of the next game due to a slight concussion.

It was a straight up head shot. No bouncing off the ball, no opponent slipping/falling, etc. Anyone suggesting different is kidding themselves. Add to the fact that Sam has prior form in careless actions on the field

Honestly he should get 1-2 games for it. Missing an Int'l game in a home tourney is a much higher punishment than a single NRL game in a 26 week season and the punishment needs to take that into account. Thats they way it would be handled in SOO and thats the way it should be handled here.

If he gets away with nothing but the onfield penalty, it will set a dangerous precedent indeed. Its laughable that some here suggesting that it shouldnt be taken any further are the same hypocrites who use player safely when justifying the shoulder charge ban. Not surprising though seeing as Sam is a Souffs player

1-2 games. I'm no fan of the Burgers but being suspended out of the World Cup would be pretty shit. Poor shot but not worth more than a couple of weeks at the most.

Tony Williams got one game for his closed fist swinging arm on James Graham in 2011, Burgess should not get any more than that.

I reckon 1 game is fair enough. However if he does it again in the tournament, I'd say 2-3 game suspension.

I don't understand how the high shot from Westwood at the start of the game has gone unrecognised by everybody in the world but me. Was a couple of times worse than the Burgess one.
