Should Peachey surrender Fullback position?

Just thinking about who should start at 5/8 this year and I thought Peach could probably do a top job at it. He certainly plays like a 5/8 close to the opponents line anyway and always has the defence in two minds.

It is no secret Peach has slowed down a fair bit and does have bad hammys so he probably isn't as potent at the fullback roll anymore.

Jason Kent or Nathan Merritt could play fullback and I think could offer a bit more zip in returning the ball from kick returns.

Possible Backline could be

Jason Kent
Matty Reick
Paul Franze
Nigel Vagana
Nathan Merritt
David Peachey
Brett Kimmorley

I think Aitkin could be a good bench player for us this year and Sullivan I would like to see as the No.1 Hooker in the team to give us that Craig wing zip from dummy half.

Anyway just a few thoughts.

How do you guys see Peachey's future at the Sharks :?:

No. Peach is needed at the back for his defence.

He can do the same as Lockyer this year - fullback in defence and 5/8 in attack.

If they play flat attack it won't work, if they play a deeper attack it could work well.

I read in an interview with Stu Raper in the paper the other day that they have changed the depth and width of their attack a little bit for this year.

I hope they aren't going to play any flatter!!!!

I know Im going to get blastered for this but honestly, the way peachey has been playing, he doesnt deserve to be in First Grade. Yes, Im waiting for the insults to start flying, but its my opinion, its not just his speed that has lacked, maybe it was anderson, or losing captaincy (Which really is the same reason as the first!). I know he can play twenty times better than what he has been, but in the last two seasons, he has gone from an Origin prospect to just an old bugga, but i reckon he is has to pull his ass in to line.
For my Back line.....
1.Peachey
2.Merrit
3.Franze
4.Bailey
5.Rieck
6.Vagana
7.Noddy

Yeh so go light on me i spose....

i tend to agree frailty

peachey has had some good performances over the last few years but some very bad ones also

i would have him in the side though watching him very carefully

I think this will be Peach's last season. But I would keep him at fullback. Merrit and Dave Simmons will put good pressure on him to perform. I don't think we have a 5/8 problem as Bird and Aitken are the best in Aus at under 20 and under 19 age respectively. One of them will cement the 5/8 jersey fairly quickly.

Well he has lost a couple of yards in pace.....but he's still a class player, perhaps if his mental attitude changes(blind freddy could see he wasnt happy under Ando) We might be screamin' the Peach down once again!

I have the same feeling about the 5/8's, Ali. I think a deeper attack will allow Aitken more time to weave his magic too. If this eventuates and we have two players capable of setting up supports (Noddy & Aitken) I think this will add dimensions to our attack.

Some good posts here. Especially liked the one about peach being passed it, an old bugga, then he was the first one picked!!!!!!
Good second post frailty. ?.

Peach will be full back.
There was nothing wrong with him over the last 2 seasons except for having no room to move. I would say it also contributed to his injuries. &the desperation of the teams situation meant he was unable to have time off to repair.

I am still hoping we see vagana at 5/8 by mid season.

I think Peach is worth a go at 5/8. He plays there anyway when we have the ball.
As for his defence more than 1 said this about Preston. What happened to him?
To me Peach can be the most creative back we have. ( though noddy is in a different class again).
Look at our 5/8 missed tackle count over the last couple of years. Bird,Johns,Mullane.
I say give him a go.

He plays a 5/8 role any way. I don't see the need to move him so Kent can play fullback. Kent on the wing, Rieck in PL.

Peachey at fullback... We might aswell enjoy him while we can as I don't think he will be playing next year.

Could be worth trying him there for a few games - even a trial or two. Only one way to find out how he'd go.
