Should Peachey surrender Fullback position?

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank God you people don't run the side. Peachey is still one of the most dangerous weapons in this competition and that is from fullback. He was hindered by Ando's flat attack (I was pro Ando) no doubt there. My thoughts are that he will return to his best and most magical form this year under his old mentor.

Moving him to 5/8th would cause 2 things.

(1) Lack of defensive organisation with Peachey no longer directing from the back, especially if you throw in a young bloke at fullback to replace him. I know we were having problems with this early last year and I believe that was probably a lack of Peachey talking because he lost the captaincy. He started up again towards the end of the year though and our defence improved.

(2) Peachey getting more injuries because as 5/8th you are a pivotal defender. Like a second lock forward in defence.

No way Peachey should be moved. 8)

I'd keep Peach at fullback too. True, he didn't have a real good season last year and he's getting a bit long in the tooth. But I think he's still got a couple of good years left and, on his day, he can be as dangerous as anybody.

really reefy the superhuman powers you attribute to mr peachey are reminiscant of your touching hero worship of campbell

but peachey fine player that he is is really in the twighlight of his career and is increasingly struggling with injuries

i hope you will not be to devastated if he doesnt have a great season

This is the year for trying out a new fullback. Peachy would still be my choice BUT only if his speed has improved. The return of kick by the full back is very important , its the first tackle of the set ,so speed is essential to increase meters gained and beat the rushing defence. The fullback must be an experienced player able to read the attack, not a gifted newbee. I can only see one player in the club that could be used here and that is Paul Franze.another contender could be Jason Kent.
I dont understand this idea of switching Peachy to 5/8 . His style of play dosent suite this position and if he finds himself there its only from a "set play". In defence he would be smashed by every second rower aiming at him. In Sullivan we have an outstanding posible 5/8 and in Kimmorly one of the best 1/2 backs . Keep Vagana out wide where he can get the ball at speed.
Atkin has yet to show me anything of his boy wonder skills! So many people include him in their teams. So much hype on this guy I hope he can handle it.
Its interesting that so many players were at the farewell drinks for Chris , so much harmony Blacktip must be looking for his bike brakes. Hey hang on some players actually respect and even like him! And umm all these talented young new guys that Stu Raper has to work with. And umm his record was 50/50 , semi finals and second last. How would things have gone this year? We will never know.

Well according to the stats guys he did anyway.
Also shows what a furfy the whole "defense liability" line is.
Lang had faith in Campbell.
Bennet for years had faith in Walker.
Glenn Mcgrath can't bat.
Hayden Can't bowl.

Luckily some of the greatest coaches ignore arm chair experts & let these guys do their stuff & show what great athletes they are & how important their particular strengths are in a team environment.

good coaches make use of the limited resources at hand

this doesnt make the players playing for them the best

That is a very negative view Millers!
To suggest Mcgrath is limited.

I would hope that you meant that good coaches make use of finite resources. They then make use of individual strengths, to provide balance to a team.

Well said Reefy. The balance to a team is more important than any individual's strength or weakness. That is fact. BTW, Reefy has already been proven correct with the Panthers win last year, not to mention Campbell's finals series and year as a whole. All credit should go to John Lang for any of Campbell's successes.

Back to Peachey. Those of you who are saying this could be the year to try new faces, I will remind you that he was very close to playing Origin last year. He outplayed Minichiello in the City v Country game and only missed out after we lost to Canberra with that ridiculous mess up with Reick in the back corner. If that hadn't happened it would have been the turning point for Cronulla with 3 on the trot and Peachey in for the Blues. To muck around with so senior a player nexy year is silly. He is an inspirational leader and he is our fullback.

cricket analogies are lost on me reefy

i have as much interest in cricket as you would have in getting opes to coach your footy team

The point should not be lost. The balance of a team is more important than any individual player.

You can't have 13 Brett Kimmorley's and you can't have 13 Preston Campbell's. But one of them surrounded by 12 different players each adding something different to the team is what gets you the prize. Each player at Penrith knew their role and Preston executed his role brilliantly, not unlike he did at the Sharks a few years ago. Under Lang then too.

These replies seem uncharacteristically subjective Millers. You sure you are not just arguing because it is BTR?

I don't care if it is Reefy or not. I disagree with the guy about most things. Not this though. If he is right he is right. I don't let it get personal. That's the first mistake.

Don't write me off jsut yet!
A ball hasn't been kicked off yet & I am still anxiously waiting to see how it pans out.

BTW
The Sharks will be the most experienced in the league next year.
They play in the sevens first up & in the double header first up(Is there a Friday night game?).
That puts us ahead by an hour or so already maybe!

I don't undestand Millers. Is that a double post or did you just respond with exactly the same post?

BTW Reefy, I like your new positive attitude, it makes a nice change. Most experienced.
