Should Peachey surrender Fullback position?

Hilder played a few games at 5/8, and he didn't do very well from my recollections. He played MUCH better for us at lock. He's going to end up too big for a 5/8 anyway, he's still growing. He might develop the ball skills, but the big blokes are not nimble enough IMO to dart around in broken play.

I had the chance of bumping into one of the squad last night and asked about training and positions etc etc. The feeling seemed to be that the likely make up of the side at this stage revolved around Young Russ Aitken playing 5/8 alongside noddy with Matt Hilder at Lock. Greg Bird may have a good stint in reserves unless injury sees him get a chance, however even then it is more likely that in the first instance Hilder would go to 5/8 with Bailey playing Lock forward.

Bosnich will be our hooker for the first matches and will need to do a lot wrong to lose that number 9 spot.

Andrew Lomu is training the house down.

1. Peachey
2.Rieck
3.Franze
4.Vagana
5.Emilio

6.Aitken
7.Kimmorley

13. Hilder
11.Bailey
12.Nutely

8.Stevens
9.Bosnich
10.Lomu

14.Beattie
15. Gallen
16.Bickerstaff
17. Sullivan

the pack will be a huge asset for us this year and the depth is looking great, you can slot into that lot many players like Isemonger and Gibson and Kent, along with friend, Galloway, Newton etc etc

I keep telling he's too good to be left out. Morpheus it doesn't surprise me that is the news coming out of the camp.

I think we need to find a spot for Bird though. He will be one of our best players eventually.

If there's gonna be a spot for Birdy then id say its lock.Hilder could easily fit into the 2nd row & still be as effective as normal seeing as he makes alot of very strong runs out of our territory on early tackles.Should be interesting but my selections would be:
1 Peachey
2 Merritt
3 Vagana
4 Franze
5 Rieck
6 Aitken
7 Kimmorley
8 Stevens
9 Bosnich
10 Beattie
11 Bailey
12 Hilder
13 Bird

14 Lomu
15 Nutley
16+17 throw a blanket over the last two, still an abbundance of potential there!!!!

& alot of depth!!!

Hilder at 5/8th quite simply didn't work. What happened to him being an excellent goalkicker? Hopefully they have a competition to be the number one kicker for the first few games of the season. As far as I know, our kickers would be Kimmorley, Hilder, Kent, Bird and possibly Aitken even.

Peach at Fullback for mine.

He is the best and most experienced fullback at our club who has played only Fullback at first grade. Why shift him to another position when he'll be forced to spend half the season trying to get used to running and passing to Noddy?

Leave him where he is I say. It gives him the option of allowing to do what he wants when he does.

It would also be weird if we saw him wearing another jersey too.

If he had to go though, Graeme Langlands rated Nathan Merritt the best young talent at Fullback he has seen in a long long time...

Well thank God for that. I hope the Bird gets sent packing or fed arsenic. His ego wont stand up too well in reserves, maybe he'll walk and we can sign Deano again.

Bickerstaff won't be near the top grade this year. Last year he did f**k all and now we have depth I doubt he will be in the first grade team.

I still think Hilder could play hooker. He makes a thousand tackles, can pass and could give us some good runs out of there. Opes played him at hooker against newcastle at the start of last year and I forget how he went... So if he played shit there then forget this comment

Some interesting posts here in concern of 5/8th position, I have thought about his moving peachy to 5/8th lot of yes and no scenario's lets try it at a trial, no harm there, we could also look at Hilder there or even Chris Kerr from presidents cup team, this is what trial are about, who fits in best next to Kimmorley and can give supply to back, it would help if they had a kicking game to take some pressure off Noddy, but as i said that is what trials are about lets have alook at some options espically the young guys, we may have a Billy Slater or Cameron Smith ready

I don't think I would even bother trialling Peach at 5/8th, he is going to play fullback and that's that.

Merritt can kick goals, I witnessed him kick 9/9 in a Premier League match last year from all over the park. :D

I don't mind Hilder staying at lock, I just think he would be great in defence as a 5/8th. If Aitken can come on like his potential suggests then I will be all the more happy. If not, then Bird had better aim up.

I think Sully should get used to playing hooker or bench hooker because I don't thinnk he compliments Noddy. Noddy certainly doesn't compliment Sully in the halves.

I keep hearing great things about Russo, I hope he makes the jump to 1sts smoothly because he could be a real find for us this year.

I am becoming more excited as we get closer. Sevens in 10 days!! :D

That would be nice. I think it's too early to give him that sort of praise though. Here's hoping. ;-)

Waltzing actually debuted at Hooker off the bench, in Round 1 against Melbourne last year. Scored a try on debut, too.

Deano went off with blood literally pissing from his eye, he left the field at the North-Eastern corner of the ground and walked back with claret everywhere. Hilder came on to replace him, and I remember watching him pack into the scrums.

Yes he could do it, but I think he's better utilised in other positions, ie Lock and 2nd Row, or as a bench impact weapon.
