DA,
any idea when ford will have a contract extension beyond 2020 At this stage we need to sign him for a few more years and not let him go
There is a line of others in front of him that are off contract at the end of 2020 that we need to sign before him.

BLM01, that is true but as he has come through the development squad you tend to believe he should be a keeper and his price would be negligable at the moment .. If he gets more first grade in 2020 his price goes up and then we are a chance of losing him so id be looking at a upgrade of some sort to keep him -- WE need some good cheap beautys to offset the overs in the rest of the group

Got no idea mate . We haven't even signed everybody for 2020 yet. But if he can nail down a nrl spot they may extend then

Agree but you forget one important ingredient. He will likely have a player manager now who will advise against rushing into his next contract and wait and see what his MV is.

St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor has returned to Australia and to the Dragons' pre-season in preparation for the 2020 NRL Telstra Premiership.

McGregor spent the first week of the club's pre-season in the United States with football manager Ben Haran as part of the AFL Coaches Association annual leadership tour.

McGregor details the key learnings to come from the leadership tour, in a week where he completed a dozen seminars with a variety of organisations including the New York Jets, Philadelphia 76ers, Oakley and the United Nations.

As well as address the findings of the recent football department review, McGregor discusses the recent signing of veteran New Zealand international Issac Luke.

Well..looks like he learned that when you are a coach you have to be a leader and communicate in all football departments and be innovative. All these years and a forced overseas trip paid by your club to realise that.
No wonder he cant coach. He was not sure how many seminars he went to. Sounds like he was bored or fell asleep or could not wait to get to the seminar after function drinks.... but I bet he learnt what are the better beers over there.
In 1 weeks time Mary would have forgotten what the trip was all about and prove a waste of money but least it got him away from setting up the start of pre-season. They have been doing fine without him.
This was his last chance to try and shake things up and turn things around 360 degrees.....and he cant so it is bye bye.
Oh and Mary..what does leave a footprint in all areas mean..and they are formidable words...how do you suppose to implement that?

Shit he is a real dunce.I can see this idiot actually being worse next year.He will never learn from past mistakes and the biggest problem we have is that our inept board made the same mistake again by extending his contract.

Panthers ready to pounce in race for Capewell's signature

Penrith have emerged as the frontrunner to sign one of the best free agents remaining in the NRL after offering Kurt Capewell a two-year deal.

NRL.com understands Capewell is strongly considering a switch to Penrith but St George Illawarra are also in the picture.

The 26-year-old would be a handy pick-up after salary cap pressure at Cronulla meant the Sharks could only offer him a one-year extension.

The Panthers have not made any official statement about Capewell's potential acquisition.

The back-rower's signature has been one of the most sought-after signings in the off-season with the Wests Tigers also understood to have been among those to have expressed interest over the past few months.

Capewell enjoyed his best season in 2019, playing every game for the Sharks and earning a call-up into Queensland Origin camp as a reserve player for games one and two.

Paul McGregor reveals ‘different approach’ for Dragons in 2020 as Shane Flanagan prepares to join club

St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor says his side will take a “different approach” to games in 2020 following the exit of Gareth Widdop and the uncertain future of Jack de Belin.

As McGregor and his new support staff look for ways to improve on 2019’s disappointing 15th placed finish, the coach revealed the Red V’s game plan — which focused heavily on Widdop and de Belin — will change next season.

Widdop, who has jetted off to join Warrington in the Super League, was sidelined for most of 2019 following a dislocated shoulder suffered in Round 3, while de Belin remains stood down while he faces rape charges.

“A lot of the structures we built over the last three or four years was around Gareth and around Jack,” McGregor told Sky Sports’ Big Sports Breakfast.

“Gareth’s a world class player, so it’s really important you really identify what the team needs around Gareth, so we bought Ben Hunt to really work with Gareth in that space and then we lost him.

“Jack’s really our glue in the middle, our link in our shifts. He’s our ball-playing forward. He’s an Origin forward.

“So we’re obviously going to play a way where we’re not over-relying on those two guys, which is totally different to what we worked for the past two years.

“There’s going to be a different approach to the game, and certainly defensively we really took a couple of steps backward.

“The year before we had intent, we had line speed, and we were there for one another, and I don’t think that was the case.

“We’ve got to get our ‘D’ right and we change the way we play and after six rounds, people can judge then. But we’ve got to get to those six rounds before people start judging.”

Earlier this month, the Dragons announced eight coaching staff changes following Phil Gould’s review of the club.

While McGregor retained his job, assistants Ben Hornby and Mick Crawley departed, replaced by premiership-winning Sharks and Knights assistant coach James Shepherd.

Others changes included a new head physiotherapist, strength and conditioning coach and a “mind and performance” coach who will run meditation lessons.

McGregor said the club were also close to formally announcing the appointment of Shane Flanagan who will be tasked with improving the club’s leaky defence, alongside Dean Young.

“I interviewed 10 coaches and Shane was the most impressive in our interviews,” McGregor said.

“I think Shane is a real good fella. and I don’t know him too well, but the conversation I had I’m really looking forward to bouncing ideas off him.

“The experience he’s got is going to help. I’ve heard some different things, but what I heard from Shane was a guy that’s really missed the game and wants to get back into the game and will do anything he can for the team.

“ … If you’ve ever played Cronulla they’re ready to scrap, he gets them down and dirty. He’ll be looking after our defence with Dean, which is a really good thing.

“He’s not going to come back until January which is a little bit difficult at this stage because your in-season is made from your pre-season.

“However, he’ll get a real good eight-week block before we start playing to get down and get some skin in the game.”

I agree, but it will take an approach to Ford from an opposition club to wake Millward from his nana nap.
