Signings: Orford and Riddell possible EELS!!

The fact is Parramatta will have to pay over the odds for players because no one will play for a troubled club like Parramatta unless its for big dollars. But the thing is Parramatta need more then one or 2 good players.

JT would have helped PJ Marsh out a lot during 2001, Marsh then unfourtunatly left to the Warriors.

JT came cheaply and was at the end of his career. Spending 400k on a player just so he can help out a couple of the younger guys is the not the way go. I doubt Parramatta would do that, they'd be looking at Orford as a long-term player and nothing else. JT did well with PJ, but he was on the verge on retiring and on very small cash, Orford is a player in his prime and who demands big money. Signing Orford at all would be foolish.

Didn't we offer huge money to gun players like Jamie Ainscough and Nathan Blacklock and they still turned us down? WHy should Orford be any different,I wouldnt get my hopes up just yet.

Instead of signing Orford for a year so he can go to the Central Coast why not sign him for 3 or 4 with a clause in his contract, Stating that if the Central Coast enter the comp he has the option of signing with them (but only them)

Having Tim Smith, Matt Orford and Michael Witt as halves prospects would be awesome. i wouldnt be complaining. Tim Smith can be retained on very little money because he hasnt cracked first grade. I think we could easily keep Smith and gain Orford.

I know the subject does say "possible signings" some of us seem to thing they have already signed!

Bare in my mind that there 2 other clubs in Moanly and Souths who have about a million or so to spend, much more than us anyway, it seems as though Moanly have struck big time with Tahu and BK.

I definetly won't be counting my chickens until anythings confirmed.

Tim Smith can be retained on very little money because he hasnt cracked first grade.

All it takes is for some other club to see his wares and he'll be gone...look at Kimmorley, the only First Grade he was playing (at Newcastle) was when Johns was injured and look at him now. I know he isn't a favourite of this forum but you can't deny that he has gone on to win a premiership, as well as represent state and country.

I've never seen Tim Smith play but if he is as potentially good as all the punters here say, then Parramatta better be willing to fight to keep him...

It would be great if we could sign Orford up to a 1 or 2 year hit'n'run contract. By then we should know if Tim Smith is a realistic viable long term solution at HB.
