On the radio this morning it is confirmed he has a stress fracture in his foot - it shouldn't be too bad a stress fracture because he completed a training run on it - but he could be out for 6 weeks and take some time to get back to fitness once he can train properly again.
I suppose Price will come onto the bench and either Lowrie or Woolnough will start in the second row this week.

This is a huge blow. I have a lot of confidence in Woolnough at the moment and I'm sure Lowrie's form can cover extra minutes for a while, but this Eels pack is pretty big and Simpson was needed. Especially with the wars Kennedy is in right now.

Where did all this come from?
One moment we were cruising with injuries, and now suddenly Simpson is injured....
It reminds me of Johns' neck injury last year - it came out of nowhere, and suddenly he was out for an extended period.

Are these legitimate injuries? :?
Perhaps they're all hiding injuries and we only find out about the ones that are so bad they cannot possibly play.

It sounded like Harragon said he received the injury in the huge hit on Rodney Howe, then played on with it. Amazing that it took until Thursday to hear about it.

A mild stress fracture wouldn't feel like anything more than a bruise - but the more you use it the worse it will get probably (sometimes not - depending on where it is).
He will probably be able to do some training such as bike riding or rowing machine - but no running because that will jar it and worsen the injury.
They might put him in a cast to keep him off the foot - but not to reduce the fracture - because a stress fracture doesn't need that.

Yes I heard Sterlo say exactly that. Can anyone confirm if it is true or not? (Hopefully the latter).
 Shows how much attention I was paying at that time... I didn't hear him say that.

He said it really quickly while they played a brief clip of the game from last weekend, so you were probably too busy admiring the Knights brilliance that was on display. ;-)

Simpson to miss Anzac Test
March 26, 2004

DEVASTATED Kangaroos forward Steve Simpson will miss the Anzac Test against New Zealand after today being ruled out of rugby league for six to eight weeks because of a fractured foot.

Simpson's right foot was sore after training on Wednesday and a visit to Newcastle club doctor Neil Halpin today confirmed fears he had suffered a stress fracture.

The 24-year-old will miss the chance to play his sixth Test for Australia in Newcastle on April 23.

"It's a shame because I put in so much work during the off-season and then a couple of games into the season this happens," Simpson said today.

"I'm very disappointed but I suppose there's not much I can do about it now."

Knights coach Michael Hagan has drafted Todd Lowrie into his starting side for Newcastle's trip to Parramatta tomorrow night, with Andrew Price added to the bench and teenager Riley Brown travelling with the squad as 18th man.
