Well after there underfeated tour of South Africa in 2004, the Singapore Rugby League team, who left the shore has virtual no names, returned to their homeland as heroes.
A year later, they participated in the 2005 European cup and enjoyed a fairytale run through to the final, including a 24-22 epic Quarter Final win over Sweden, where Singapore were forced to play 63 minutes with only 12 men.
In the final they faced Germany, however the hope of Singapores greatest ever sporting achievement was silenced, when an 80th minute field goal to German pivot Mikael Klose broke the deadlock and consequently sunk the hearts of the Singaporians, handing Germany the European Cup for 2005. Make no mistake though, they lost no friends in defeat, and the Singapore rugby league team were cheered off the ground to a standing ovation.... hopefully, not for the last time.
