you either love it or hate it. i love it. less than jake are the greatest ska band in the history of the genre and always will be. i bought their "anthem" album a few months ago and it is brilliant, almost as good as " hello rockview". reel big fish are next on the lost with awesome songs like "sellout" and "setup". theres a few good australian ska bands making the round at the moment. in particular 99% FAT and Bagster. "vacation" by bagster is a top song. who likes ska?

LOL, 99% Fat are the Ska band in John Safran's Musical Jamboree who wrote their own gig review, gave themselves 5 stars & sent it in to the street press, who published it.

But I digress.

When I listen to Ska, I'm more into the older stuff like The Specials, rather than the newer stuff.

Cheers,
Ben S.

Yeah I dig The Specials, they are as far as I have delved into ska. Also No Doubt started off as a ska band, and although they have become more of a pop animal these days they still retain some ska flavours at times.

Luv Area 7 and the Porkers, actually I like most Ska bands.

It has evloved over the years from the reggae/pop sound of the Specials and Madness type bands.

But it is still a good sound for me.

Used to listen to a lot of ska back in my high school wannabe punk days.

Dont listen to it much these days as i find ska a bit too soft for me.

Fav Ska Bands were - Voodoo Glow Skulls and Leftover Crack.

I dig a bit of ska. I have a couple of Area 7 cd's, plus a Reel Big Fish one and a Voodoo Glow Skulls one. The Fish are the best of the three.. in my view they're the benchmark of modern punk-ska.

As do I. Taped from the TV in the 1980's and still working.

Same here.

The episode 'Bomb' is just about on its last legs.

I refuse to buy the DVD set until those tapes die, god rest their souls.

cant stand ska, something about the trumpets being mixed with guitars just gives em the shits. well non stop ska does anyway. i dont mind when i hear the odd song on an album like the way nofx do it. about 2 ska songs for every 3 albums.

if i had to pick a ska band that i could tolerate then it would be the mad caddies.

Less than Jake, the best ska band? Eek. No way. They've got a few ok songs but their music style is mostly punk with a little bit of brass rather than true ska. I agree that stuff like the Specials and other early eighties ska is really good, the Clash had some good ska tracks too. Why do they rock so hard is one of my fave albums. The Porkers are awesome, I saw them live a few years ago and had a great time. Mad Caddies and Rancid are my two favourite ska-playing bands, but it's obviously not the only genre either of them play.

I don't think a single "ska" band has been mentioned in this thread so far!

Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of the stuff people have listed here but real ska is from early 50-s Kingston, Jamaica.

All the stuff people have mentioned in here is either Two Tone or Ska-punk. Ska is in a category all by itself.

Anyone who listens to Reel Big Fish and calls it ska doesn't really know what ska is. A brass section does not equal ska band.
