Sky Sport "Celebrates" Australia Day

In the afterglow of the Rugby League World Cup, SKY Sport, with a little help from Kiwibank, will be celebrating Australia Day in style on Monday 26 January.

In a true blue Kiwi sports fan tribute, SKY Sport 3 will showcase highlights from a selection of feel-good sports events where the Kiwi's have stood up to our 'West Island' cousins and proved victorious, as well as favourite international events where the Australians have crumbled under pressure and lost to the battling underdog.

So to remind us that the Australian's are human after all, SKY Sport celebrates the Great Sporting Nation's less than terrific sporting achievements with a salute to the Ozzie sport cheer – 'Ozzie, Ozzie, Ozzie, io, io, oh dear…'

SKY Sport 3 Monday 26th
5:30pm Cricket 2005 Ashes 2nd Test day 4.
Highlights.
England was well on their way to a series win and on this day the Boastful Australians were severely dealt to.

6:00pm Rugby 1996 All Black V Australia Tri nations Athletic Park
Highlights.
The First season of Tri Nations Rugby and a very cold and windy Wellington saw the Australians given a lesson on how to play rugby, resulting in an All Black win 46-6.

6:30pm Netball 2008 Silver Ferns V Australia 1st Test
Highlights.
The first match after Australia stole the 2007 World Championship from us and they were well and truly given a hiding.

7:00pm Cricket 2007 Chappell Hadlee ODI # 1 Wellington
Highlights.
A ten-wicket thumping by the Black Caps and the first step in taking the trophy from a more than cocky Baggy Green team.

7:30pm Rugby 2000 All Blacks V Australia (the Test made in Heaven) Sydney
Highlights.
If rugby was a piece of art then this game would be hung up in place of the Mona Lisa, it was just that good. 24-0 in 20 minutes and who could forget Jonah Lomu in the dying minute to seal Australia's fate, just magic!

8:00pm Cricket 2007 Chappell Hadlee ODI # 2 Eden park
Highlights.
Two shell shocked teams, following the Black Caps emphatic ten wicket win in the first match of the series at Wellington, turn up to Eden Park and what results is a record run chase of 340 and a Chappell-Hadlee victory to the Black Caps with five wickets in hand.

8:30pm League, 2008 Rugby League World Cup with Australian Commentary.
Full Replay.
The League game of the Century, for Kiwi fans that is, and what a way to round out the century celebrations with this fantastic win to the Kiwis. Here's another full replay of this magic game and this time with a special treat – the expert Channel 9 Australia commentary, classic just for the despair in the voices as they realise 'their cup' is about to head across the Tasman.

10:30pm Cricket 2007 Chappell Hadlee ODI # 3 Hamilton
Highlights.
The Australians played for pride – or to at least walk away with some dignity - but Brendon McCullum's fine 86 led New Zealand to a dramatic 3-0 whitewash over Australia in the 3rd ODI at Hamilton, banishing them back across the ditch to lick their wounds.

11:00pm Golf Augusta Masters 1996 Norman v Faldo
Highlights.
Greg Norman is one of only two players to have competed in - and, like Craig Wood, to have lost - play-offs in all four of the major championships. Perhaps the worst meltdown occurred at The Masters in 1996, where he blew a six-stroke lead in the final round and lost the tournament to Nick Faldo by five strokes, shooting a Sunday 78 to Faldo's 67. ESPN as part of their 25th-anniversary celebration, ranked Norman's 1996 Masters mishap as the third-biggest sports choke of the last 25 years.

God, what a stuffed up little country this makes us look. Tall Poppy Syndrome at it's finest, will make NZ even more of a laughing stock in Oz

Sky is owned by an aussie I think!!

Its a clever marketing concept, but if we dwell on the differences, thats not so good for the relationship.

Don't take it so seriously, I'm an Aussie and it seems pretty funny.

Spot on mate. It's a laugh. We are recognising the Aussies on their day - kinda like two mates take the piss out of each other.

Bout time us Kiwi's were ballsy enough to give Aussie some sh*t.

Youve been giving it to us for ages.

You refused to become one of our states in 1900!

I work for an Australian company living in NZ. I get heaps (friendly banter) on a daily basis - all fun. In our annual end of year presentation there was pictures of sheep plasted throughout the NZ pages. I loved it though when the Kiwis won the RLWC !!

All a bit of fun I would have thought.

Agreed, and as a Kiwi living in Sydney I know that Australians aren't shy at having a dig at us, particularly when its sports related. It all seems in good fun and not done in a biter sort of way so I reckon it's cool.

LOL

That's classic. Most (bar about two on this forum) will see it for what it is, a damn good laugh.

Ive only been screwing around.

Its a good fun concept.

If youse want to, theres still time for NZ to become another Australian state, there is still a vacancy in our constitution for youse to step up to the plate.

BTW we cant send our ships to harass the japanese whalers because they are in NZ territorial waters.

They cant whale in our waters because our federal court found their activities illegal. Other than that, most Aussies hate the whalers guts.

Do you guys still have a navy?

If so, do us all a favour, get out there, get the jap crews off their ships safely, line up the torpedo's and fire at will.

It will be a sinking for the "scientifc purposes" of Australia and New Zealand to find out how long it takes for a Jap whaling ship to sink. The findings could change all of our lives and lead to a cure for every ailment ever known.

Give them a taste of their own specious, pathetic and illogical arguments used to justify their criminal activity.
