Rugby League Commercial (RLC) has unveiled its new global, direct-to-consumer streaming service, SuperLeague+. The platform marks the next phase of IMG's long-term strategic partnership with RLC to reimagine the sport in the UK. Powered by IMG sister company Endeavor Streaming, it will help drive the sport's digital transformation, diversify its media strategy and reach new audiences worldwide.

Launching on 23 January, ahead of the 2024 Betfred Super League season, SuperLeague+ will stream all 167 matches from the competition live internationally, starting on Thursday 15 February with the season opener, one of the sport's classic derby fixtures between Hull FC and Hull KR.

In the UK and Republic of Ireland, domestic fans will be able to watch 106 Betfred Super League games live on the service, with the remaining 61 games to be made available delayed and on-demand. Live coverage in the UK will kick off on Friday 16 February when reigning World Club Champions St Helens take on newly promoted London Broncos, and 2023 Betfred Challenge Cup winners Leigh Leopards play the Huddersfield Giants (both 8pm UK kick off).

The service will also feature exclusive fan content, including Betfred Super League highlights, archive content, dedicated club sections, and original programming such as Player Features, Super League Stories and the Out of Your League podcast.

Rhodri Jones, Managing Director of RL Commercial, said: "The launch of SuperLeague+ marks the start of a new era for the Betfred Super League and for British Rugby League. Thanks to the groundbreaking deal agreed with Sky Sports last year, all six matches in each of the 27 weekly rounds of the men's Super League through the 2024 season - a total of 162 games - will be broadcast on a variety of platforms. Sky Sports will retain exclusive live coverage of two fixtures in each round and our new OTT platform, SuperLeague+, will offer live coverage of the remaining matches.

"This live coverage of more than 100 weekly-round fixtures will be augmented by on-demand, delayed coverage of Sky's selections for fans in the British Isles. Meanwhile, SuperLeague+ will offer live coverage of all matches in every round for international subscribers. SuperLeague+ will also offer a range of original programming and archive matches and features - meaning that with Sky Sports also showing more Rugby League in 2024, including selections from the Betfred Women's and Wheelchair Super Leagues, fans will have more ways to watch more matches than ever before."

Peter Bellamy, Chief Commercial Officer at Endeavor Streaming, said: "For the first time, Betfred Super League fans around the world can watch live coverage of their favourite teams from one destination. With our world-class streaming technology and fan engagement expertise, we're able to help the sport expand its international reach and connect directly with its global fanbase to drive even deeper engagement."

Hosted on Endeavor Streaming's end-to-end streaming solution, Vesper, SuperLeague+ will offer an enhanced viewing experience through features such as multi-view, which enables fans to switch between live games that are being played concurrently. The RLC will also utilise Endeavor Streaming's fan support services, offering fans a dedicated helpdesk for SuperLeague+ users throughout the season.

Through single sign-on, members of Our League, RLC's membership platform can also seamlessly access the service which will be available on web at www.superleague.co.uk/superleagueplus, and via the SuperLeague+ app on iOS and Android devices, as well as Connected TV platforms (Apple TV, Fire TV and Android TV).

In addition, Endeavor Streaming will provide flexible, out-the-box monetization tooling to offer fans a range of subscription and Pay-Per-View packages based on their location. Fans can purchase an Annual pass for £129.99 or rolling monthly subscriptions for £19.99 per month, with Pay-Per-View match passes available from £6.99 per game. Betfred Super League season ticket holders can also enjoy an annual subscription at the discounted price of £99.99 when purchased via a redemption code provided by their club.

It is the latest development in IMG's digital transformation work with Rugby League Commercial and follows recently announced partnerships with digital asset management solution, ScorePlay, and fantasy gaming provider, Voono, to enhance the sport's digital strategy and attract new, younger audiences.

The launch builds on Endeavor Streaming's experience building innovative streaming services and fan-engagement platforms for some of the world?s biggest rightsholders including World Rugby, New Zealand Rugby, Tottenham Hotspur, Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Women?s Soccer League (NWSL) and the English Football League (EFL).

RUGBY LEAGUE COMMERCIAL and BBC Sport have today confirmed a new three-year broadcast partnership.

For the first time, regular live coverage of the Betfred Super League and this month’s Betfred World Club Challenge, as well as the Men’s, Women’s and Wheelchair Challenge Cups will be included.

The multi-platform coverage will also include highlights of every Super League match on the BBC Sport website and app, and an extension of Rugby League’s partnership with BBC radio, with commentaries on BBC Radio 5 Live and 5 Sports Extra, as well as the extensive coverage on BBC local radio which includes Betfred Championship and League One.

The new coverage will kick off when the champions Wigan Warriors launch their title defence at Castleford Tigers on Saturday week, February 17 from 5pm on BBC Two and iPlayer – the first Super League match to be shown live on the BBC.

The following Saturday also on BBC Two, Wigan Warriors will face the three-times NRL champions Penrith Panthers at the DW Stadium, aiming to win the World Club Challenge for the fifth time.

A total of up to 15 Betfred Super League matches will be covered in each of the next three seasons across digital and linear channels, including two matches in the Play-Offs live on BBC TV for the first time in September and October.

In another first, the BBC Sport website and app will carry selected highlights from the Women’s Super League, including the semi finals and Grand Final, and the Wheelchair Super League Grand Final.

The reimagined relationship will see the continuation of the BBC’s long-standing coverage of the Men’s Challenge Cup including the Final at Wembley, which dates back to 1948, and will continue to showcase the very best of the women’s and wheelchair game – with the Women’s Final to be played at Wembley for the second time this June, and the semi finals of the Women’s competition, and the Final of the Wheelchair Challenge Cup, also being shown on BBC channels.

Rhodri Jones, Managing Director for Rugby League Commercial, said: “This is a landmark agreement for Rugby League. Securing live free to air coverage on the BBC for the Super League competition as part of this reimagined partnership means there will be more visibility than ever before.

“To guarantee the Challenge Cup coverage for a further three years also is testament to the BBC’s commitment to one of the oldest rugby tournaments in the world, whilst acknowledging the sport of Rugby League is for everyone, with their continued coverage of the Women’s and Wheelchair competitions.

“The platform is now set for our players to show off their skill, speed and passion for those in the stadia, and to those watching at home.”

Philip Bernie, Interim Director of BBC Sport said: “Nothing beats live sporting action and, combined with our team’s outstanding expert commentary and coverage, this new deal will deliver so much for Rugby League fans to enjoy.

“With more live games than ever before on the BBC, including live Super League matches for the very first time, and a new digital highlights package which will show the key action from the weekend’s matches, we are really excited about our expanded offer for this great sport.”

RL Commercial can confirm that all Catalans Dragons fixtures in the 2024 Betfred Super League will be shown in France and Spain in another broadcasting first for the competition thanks to new agreements that have been reached with L'Equipe and TV3, negotiated by IMG.

The coverage kicks off with the Dragons' blockbuster home opener on Saturday February 17 which will also be Sam Burgess's first match as coach of the Warrington Wolves - as Steve McNamara's team begin their quest to go one better than last season's defeat in the Betfred Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford.

L'Equipe and TV3 showed a selection of Catalans fixtures for the first time in 2023, but with all games now available for broadcast, the coverage will be significantly expanded this year.

And there will be much more Rugby League available in France and Spain through RL Commercial's new global SuperLeague+ streaming platform, which will provide live coverage of all six fixtures every week. Annual and monthly passes are now on sale, and individual game passes will be available from next week - full details here SuperLeague+

L'Equipe is a free-to-air channel available throughout France, part of the media group including the renowned daily sports newspaper of the same name. The majority of Catalans fixtures will be shown on L'Equipe Live, their streaming platform, although the games against Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors in August have already been confirmed for L'Equipe's linear channel.

TV3 is a Catalan-language channel broadcasting in Spain.

Christophe Levy, Head of Commercial at Catalans Dragons, said:

"The coverage of the Catalans Dragons in 2024 will be unique in our history. All our games will be broadcast on SuperLeague+ all around the world but also in in France on L'Equipe Live and in Spain on TV3, as well as coverage on England from Sky Sports and BBC. This is a superb opportunity to help the club and the sport to expand and to allow our fans and sponsors to be more engaged than ever in our competition. We would like to thank IMG and Rugby League Commercial for their help in the negotiations. This new deal will offer us an extraordinary visibility."

There will be further announcements about overseas coverage of the Betfred Super League in 2024 before the season kicks off next Thursday (February 15).

Such a significant deal for RL in France and a real opportunity to re-establish the code in the Catalonia region of Spain.

Amazing what can be negotiated when all games are broadcasted.
