Slater or Hayne

Hayne every day of the week. Brett Stewart was making Slater look like a plodder before his knees blew out. Slater was lucky to earn his position as being regarded as the best FB in the game because Stewart's knees blew out, Hayne was playing in a team of plodders, GI hadn't yet found his way to becoming a FB, Mini was overcoming serious back problems and there were pretty average fullbacks running around elsewhere.

Add to that, Slater was lucky enough (in terms of personal accolades) to be playing in a team a million dollars over the cap.

If Hayne played his entire career at the Storm and Slater at the Eels, these comparisons would never come up.

Slater is the most consistently brilliant player I've ever seen play the game, but Hayne's ability and skill level are much higher. Hayne's only problem is an inability to consistently show off his talents while surrounded by some of the greatest plodders to ever lace a boot.

The true test is to see how each player goes when thrown into the rep arena, when they both get a fair chance to shine. And in that arena Hayne obliterates Slater. In tests is not even a contest, while even in origin with Slater playing in the clear superior side Hayne has still managed to be best on field in most games he plays.
This is the truth.

Two heads will find it hard to comprehend.

At his best I don't think i've seen any other fullback come close to Hayne. He has been held back somewhat by injuries and by playing at a basket case of a club surrounded by plodders. He's still got plenty of time left in his career to prove himself though since he started so young.

Judging players on what they're like "at their best" or the "peak of their powers" is completely pointless...

If you put Hayne in QLD and Slater in NSW i doubt Billy could carry New Plod Wales to SOO glory with Josh Plodnolds and Trent Plodkinson

Getting stripped by Waddles is a victory by default to Hayne.
