Sloan to Reggie’s

It's the little things that I have noticed. ie, straight pass through the hands to Finau to score. So what I've seen, you can't coach some of the natural instincts he has. That's why he succeeded in 7's.
He is all effort, skill and some really refined skills. Just a footballer, great under the high ball, powerful, quick and can find a gap. No clumsiness whatsoever.
The trial earlier in the year where he leapt for an attacking kick, caught it and kicked it as he was bringing the ball down and our winger scored. That was a sublime play, similar to the Mark N try the other night.

He’s played a sum total of 9 games of Rugby League. Shows you what a player he is.

When CT comes back, Sloan will be a Cup player.

I don't think that's true. Sloane may be our fastest player but we still have plenty of speed without him. Liddell is quick. Cook is quick. Gutho takes a while to wind up but has a good top speed. Val Holmes has plenty of toe. Lawson looks very zippy. Finau has good pace. Toby Couchman was the fastest prop measured in magic round. Suli & Leiluia still look like lumps, but I reckon we actually have quite a bit of speed around the paddock, a lot more than we have had in recent years.
In my opinion, if Lawson continues to improve, he will secure a wing spot from now on. The next best is CT. So if Sloan wants out we should just let him go. Otherwise he should help reserve grade to win the 2025 competition.

With Sloane out we have no speed, I hold out a little hope that he will pay the faith back one day soon and win us a critical game with just his speed.
Unfortunately to date Sloan hasn’t proved to be a game changer. I’ve just checked and he has played 68 games. To be honest if we are looking at his improvement he hasn’t set the world on fire, in fact his overall development has been lack lustre. If we were to compare him to Dylan Egan for example who has only played a handful of games Dylan’s involvement and consistency has been extremely noticeable. This is where Sloan has not only lets himself down and more importantly the team as a whole. If the coaching squad is looking at his stats for any game he is “bludging on the blindside“ to coin an old phrase. This is why the top teams do so well. Their back three get on the front foot at the start of each set. The game against Newcastle on friday night Sloan did not touch the ball for the first ten minutes in the second half. I was furious at his blatant lack of energy and assistance in helping our forward pack. Sloan needs a decent amount of time in the reggie’s so another winger can have a go who has more hunger for their position.

Sloan doesn't chase when opposition get in the clear. That is half the value of his speed negated.
Fair call, I know he has liabilities and he is not a quick learner, but he has speed no one else in the squad possesses and one day we will need it. Consensus on here seems to be he is a lost cause, Flanagan will ultimately decide if the consensus prevails.

He doesn’t learn at all. Or improve his effort.

He’s done. Once he’s out of the team he won’t be capable of forcing his way back in.

They tried to go that way all night but was either cut off before the ball got to him or was run over the sideline when Val ran an angle, to which Lawson signaled what just happened.
Val can run directly to the outside shoulder of his opposite center.. This will draw in the opposite center and opposite winger, the crip passes to his winger. This should be the plan, a simple plan that is most likely to succeed. I would also like to see high kicks to the corners with our winger chasing through. Both CT and Lawson have shown an ability to catch and score from such kicks.

Right now it seems that Lawson and CT have the better standard of skills suitable for first-grade. Sloan, like Dufty before him, has a skill set that is filled with some negative traits that often cost the Dragons a win. No one is dismissing Sloans attacking skills when he is on but this is not always enough to gain a win.

Sloan finally dropped never to be seen again in the Nrl team .
Has had many chances over 4 years in the top grade Dragons . We have a few good players in nsw cup now coming in Ramsey and Lawson

While most of us would like Sloan to be a success, moreso given that he is a junior, but would the top teams have still persisted with him after more than 3 years and over 60 first grade games and showing a lack of physicality? Other clubs might have toughened him up more by now but we are where we are, can't go back, and need to make a call of keep or remove if we are to progress as a club and not just hang onto players because they are a nice person or a junior. Unfortunately NRL is a ruthless game and you need to make the hard decisions to succeed.

Agree , maybe in a top 4 team where doesn't need to make too many tackles , not sure he may come good as he matures and gets his aggression and toughness sorted ........ At this stage I can't see him being a fullback in any team .........

I have been watching Tamale at the Raiders and he is the type of player the Dragons have been craving for. Instead of Sloan and Suli on one side of the field, Saints should be fielding Lomax and Tamale. What a lethal backline of Tamale, Lomax, Val and Lawson. Suli should be wearing other colours at his 4th or 5th club not Lomax at his 2nd. I can see why Suli was let go. That is a backline that can get Saints to finals. It has 2010 backline all over it. WIth Gutho at the back that is a superb back 5.

Very poor judgement in not keeping those 2 ahead of Suli and Sloan. Griffin/SFlanno to blame for that big time. It is becoming quite embarrassing really for the guys overseeing the roster and shows how much good depth Saints have but only other teams realise this more than the Saints. I hope the same mistake is not made with Latu and he does not become a star in the making.

WTF is wrong with Suli? he runs more metres than our foward pack each week. who do you expect to get us out of the backfield?

When he was at Manly he got a lot more breaks i feel like they used him differently.

Also if we didnt let Lomax Go we wouldnt have Val Holmes.

Agree we should have kept tamale tho

Lomax and Tamale are both wingers. Suli is a centre. Also I reckon I dont get the hate for Suli... he's playing pretty well. Was immense the other night

I have been a Sloan Ranger for as long as anyone, but even I cant shake this kid free of his too casual approach to football
I honestly don't know what after 68 games he hasn't learned to be urgent and to be willing to fight for it. Go after the game.
It wont happen, but the future would be best atm with a back three of

Ramsey
Lawson
**unknown fast winger**
