NSW dominated in both the forwards and backs. Both sides were decent enough as far as defence was concerned but in the end we showed a bit more class to out do them. It shows that Maguire as a coach has the right methods to win big games.

Walsh had some dangerous moments in attack but we shut him out quick smart. We, sorry NSW, just nullified their attack and the Maroons could not post a try.

The Dragons should adopt this application in all of their remaining games this year.
I would not put too much on the coaching, just the will and class of the players we have. Their forwards were light on.
More importantly QLD Dads Army needs to bring fresh young blood for today's game
Its getting time over for Hunt, DCE, Gagai, Kaufusi, or even Capewell? at that level.
I also think Billy dropped the wrong back edge rower in Sua.
They did have some injuries and players left out that a walk up starters like Tino Munster Flegler and the Dolphins forward injured.

Kaufusi looks like a bloody medieval monk with that receding hairline. Just bite the bullet and shave it all off!! My wife was asking who the old guy on the field was.....
Out of those 4 I agree its time to move 3 of them on. DCE I think still has a year or two left in him at that level. Would swap him for Hunt for the next 2 years here at the Dragons without a second thought.

I don't think that Tyrell gives a rat's arse on how the media is perceiving him and his shortcomings. His concern is to keep Flanno happy, not those scurvy creatures on the TV set and newspapers looking to put undue pressure on him.

He has a good mentor who is like a father image to him that he has known throughout his high school days and continues to discuss life in general with him.

Flanno will sort this out.
Sorry for the late delay, missed it.

Flanno has kids and has a job to keep.

He has more patience than me, thats for sure.

Coming to the pointy end now. Our forwards are starting to just hold there own. Just.

We dont have the luxury of a walsh esk fullback, with our pack.

I say, send him back and put either Matt or Lomax at fullback. Im hoping that is what the handshake was for.

No malice in this post as sloan supporters are very protective and I get it, but.

its Ok I am Sloan supporter and happy to give him more time
But his contact in defence is still poor as wont use or lead with his shoulder, bend his back. He has started to put his body in front standing his ground a bit but jumping in from the side.
He has to fix it by early next year or he wont make it

I can appreciate the frustration that many of you have with Sloan. While he is gradually improving in some areas of his game, the big problem that really gets us hot under the collar is his inability to effectively defend and this year so far we can see he still has problems.

If Flanno feels that Sloan could be a problem as we get into the last 7 or so games and we have a deadset chance of finishing in the top 8, then he would have to make the call to put someone else in the No.1 jersey as defence is the main thing now. We saw that in the last SOO game.

The problem we do have is taking Sloan out of the team would also lessen our capabilities of attacking strongly to score tries with a lack of pace in the team. But, as I said, defence is the big thing in these remaining games and of course in the finals.

Lomax fullback for rest of the season sloan has had plenty of opportunities in 3 years but isn't a talker at the back and not a solid defender . His attack isn't showing needs to be around the ball a lot more doesn't have the footy brain to link up in the middle .
Lomax is the x factor we need at fullback to push for the finals has more running metres than sloan and carries.

I can agree with you about Lomax. He is a capable player in the backs including fullback. I'm wondering if he has had more "training" this year to fill that No.1 fullback position. He might be the answer. I don't know if Matt Feagai's shoulder has mended and when he is likely to return. If fit, he can take Lomax's wing position. I would then imagine Sloan having to spend time in the KOE Cup.

And this is why John Morris has never made it as an NRL coach.

I agree.

He will be targeted heavily from now on. Flanno knows what he is doing, that is obvious. Even to the haters.

Sloan has contributed to many wins and many losses since being elevated to the first-grade fullback position. I have seen enough to say that we need a more consistent performer with all the skills required for the position.

Enough loyalty from the club and the coach has gone Sloan's way. It is time to send Sloan to reserve grade for re-training as a five-eighth.

Sloan isn't the best defender, won’t argue. But neither is Walsh or a bunch of other “attacking weapon” style fullbacks. these types tend to do well behind good packs as people say, when their team is on the front foot, but can be found out when their team is in trouble.

sloan is like this, and I think that although I have seen huge improvements this year, there are clearly still deficiencies. the question is, “is he worth persevering with?”
personally I say a big yes because
1) we don’t have much in the way of options
2) I think his improvement this year makes me believe he is worth the risk. The trajectory is up. (I used to say something similar on Dufty, so I am wary, but I believe his effort and application both show big improvements.)
3) although not a top 8 fullback atm, he is on half the money of others

Definitely improved but has gone backwards too. The only thing Walsh and Sloan have in common is the number they wear.
I believe the experiment is over. After 50 NRL GAMES we should be talking about 1% improvements and rep football . But we seem to be talking about “ 2 more preseasons he will get strong” or “ he’s learning”.
this can not be the mindset from now on. We can’t hang onto guys that are not performing this year but “ they are my fave player and he scored 20+ try’s last year’.
I’m a huge Sloan and Dan Russell fan as humans but realise they are not going to get the club to the top. We could several names to that list .
We have been “ near enough is good enough “for too long.

Look … the club fkd up by releasing Lomax. Plain and simple. Personally - he is way too slow to play FB but regardless of that debate, to put Lomax to FB now would compound that poor decision and won’t happen. Sloan was poor in those last 20 mins vs broncos but he’s got through his work this year , could be better but hasn’t been all bad. Ideally we’d have another long term player keeping him honest , but we don’t.

Lomax could still be an aerial attack weapon near the posts as a fullback. Turbo esk.

Or wrap around on plays and give the edges a headache, like staggs with some room.

Not many downsides. Pace isnt everything and the few times sloan has been in the open, he has been collected pretty easily. Bar a bad miss against warriors I think.

Next year is next year, we are in the race this year.
