Ado Carr right from his early years has always dodged that first tackle.. he rarely got lifted and carried.. thats the piece that all the elusive lightweight fullbacks have.. Sloan doesnt have it.. he cant be a winger unless there is massive weight gain in the next 1-2yrs to the point he can run over defenders and have the strength to pull out of tackles..

For me hes a 1 or maybe a 6, but probably a 1 or nothing..

Try that in reserve grade. Go for Teddy as our first-grade fullback. We can't afford another season with Sloan at fullback.
We should have bought Teddy when he left the tigers. You can thank the St George side of the JV for deciding that they preferred Dufty.

He’s no longer worth the money.

The key is to atleast have 2 options for every position.. but the Hunt situation could be a real doozie if Flanno changes his mind about still relying on him in 2025...

There is a Sloan that comes out when we r chasing points, his urgency goes up.. and he starts supporting more intensely.. perhaps he cant keep that up for long periods, and perhaps it mostly works when defence is tired.. but thats rly what a fullback should be doing... we have plenty of blokes who can poke a nose through.

We were obviously practicing a lot of no look offload plays with LKT and Sloan.. which came off sometimes.. I guess atleast we were trying something, but I reckon we should be able to look before throwing most of these passes... bit of an all or nothing play.. and it was the errors early that once again knocked us out of the game.

I think we saw what happens when we get the ball to Sloan in space out the back of shape. We never do it, and we only did when we were chasing points which was futile down by as many as we were. Usually Hunt/K Flano/Bird hold the ball for too long and give it to him when there's already players all over him. As we know, he's not going to break 5 tackles and run over the top of everyone. It's common sense to put him in a bit of space, but it just doesn't happen often enough at all

Who? Doust and Craig Young?

Our BOD has made some very dumb decisions over the past 14 or so years.

Probably wanted to save a buck or two.

But to be fair Teddy was likely always going to the Roosters. He had Mini on his wall as a kid and then Mini and he got on well during the Italy RLWC camps.

Today's gave v canberra sitting in members
Every member today said sloan has to be in nsw cup next season is not a fullback and needs to bulk up and play on the wing .
We need a solid fullback that can defend the line sloan again like all season cost us the game letting 3 tries in .

And that's why Bennett said if you listen to the fans too much you'll end up in the stands with them.

I didnt think he would stop Hudson Young, but he had plenty of time on both occasions to atleast get in front of him or slow him down.. I feel like we have been stuck in this dufty/sloan vortex for half my lifetime.

But if he really can put on weight in the off-season and I dont think he copped an injury today... maybe the extra size and a physical off-season will help.. but I suspect we will have another option on the books for sure this time around.. Holmes or some other.. I just dont think we will go into another season having to rely 'just' on him.

I reckon Sloan's been one of the big improvers - particularly in the second half of the year.

He may not be Dylan Edwards but I also don't think he deserves even half of the vitriol he cops in here.
Agree he has improved this year. You can't beat physics though in the modern game. He needs to put on weight and strength as 84kgs is not just big enough. If he can get closer to 90kgs, he will be stronger and should be more confident in how he can handle collisions in both defence and attack.
It's a make or break off season for Sloan this year. Flanno knows it, we all know it, it's up to Sloan to own it if he is to become the high quality fullback he no doubt could be.
Get Sloan firing, the addition of Cook and Holmes and the two missing props and we are well on our way to securing the top 8 next year. If we can get rid of Hunt for a decent game managing 7 and we are not far from a top 4 side imo. Really interested to see what we can identify come November 1, I hope there is a lot of musical chairs to be played out yet.
