Slowness in threads?

Since this afternoon I've noticed that it's taking a while to load individual threads, however when I'm browsing the index and the different forums, as well as posting, it loads much quicker. Is there any reason for this? :?

Since the hacking last weekend, we've been trying to re-build the forums when possible without taking it offline.

Sorry for the inconvenience folks but there'll be a few oddities this week.

Just the same, please report anything out of the ordinary.

Cheers.

Hmmm, you must have a super quick connection! I have cable and it's still slow.

I'm on ADSL and I'm also noticing this. It's annoying because it's only a third level glitch, the rest of the navigation is fine except entering threads.

This seems even worse this morning. You can fly round in and out of
forums but the moment you try and go into a thread it turns into a
stubborn dog.

Its not slow from my connection, tried several threads, I am checking the database now as it woill only be an issue with the posts tables in the database rather than the code itself

It seems the longer the thread, the longer it takes to load. Threads with very few posts load pretty quickly. :?

yup thats pretty much the tall and skinny of it.

Its because for each post it has to search through 390MB of data to get the post information. Willow, legend, el diablo and I are discussing options for the new year.

That's no reason for it to take so long. Is phpbb2 really that poorly written? Are the tables indexed properly at least? :?

well thats part ofthe problem. Indexing isnt going to help in this case because of the structure.

Its not just the size of the data its the structure too,

Dimah not a bad idea but the problem is they will be running off of the same server so same problem comes up.

The new year will see some changes that should fix all this

Just one more time for the dummy (me). It has always been that the
longer the thread, the slower to load...but nothing like this. Is it something
that has worsened since the hack and subsequent uprade. I am at the stage that if the thread is longer than, say, 8 posts, I don't bother.
It is simply that slow. I'm not sure of your connection or ISP, Zaphod
but it sure ain't working here.

We have a 2mbps connection via the US which means its pretty shit hot.

The problem is not the code but the data itself.

There isnt a lot we can do short of re-indexing the tables
