Can't believe no-one's mentioned Willie Peters
Once touted as the next Sterlo at Souths, then played a couple of seasons for the Dragons in 2001/2 before going back to Souths.

Never quite made the hype (Sterlo) but a bloody good half who at 5'5", played well above his stature.

Nightingale was a dwarf compared to the many giant wingers he marked.
How good was Nighty. Played with so much heart. Ray Warren loved him as the other co-commentators used to give him Rabs heaps for his man cruch on Nighty. My favourite Rabs moment on Nighty was when he said, "Jason's doing everything tonight, he will probably be taking out the bins later as well when the stadium gets empty" something like that.

Forgot to mention Ross Strudwick, Billy Smith's understudy and Wally Lewis' mentor. A very good telling of his story here https://thecreativewriter.com.au/ross-strudwick/ the bit about standing in front of his house to wave to Billy Smith in his red Cortina going to training and his eventual A Grade debut, on the same day as being selected on the bench for 3rd Grade are mint. Rugby League of a different era and stories that must be preserved.

Is it the one about his only goal in test footy?
Nah.
Mate of mine who played with him during junior footy and in second grade.
Related an anecdote on a Saturday night about Irvine and a bunch of North players at the Manly Corso on the median strip.
everyone (any yobbo that was present) had to try to dislodge
them off the median strip.
Irvine just kept knocking them all off; he was the last man standing. so strong, so tough!
