In Magnay's defence she responded almost immediately, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt on this one and assume it was something she wasn't aware of:

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your thoughts. I have forwarded them to the digital department. I was unaware of the inclusion of Sonny Fai and I will bring it to the attention of the appropriate people asap.
Thanks for letting me know.
Kind regards,
Jacquelin

The issue is as stated above, that on the eve of an almost sell out local Sydney derby, big brother wants to remind you that the RL community is evil...and you should lock up your daughters and run for your life.....and open your arms to AFL and RU whom will bring you closer to the almighty...

It's one story against many written regarding RL this week, a lot of them of the feelgood variety.

I think you're all being way precious. Media watch? Are you serious?

I notice they've taken it down off the front page.

EDIT - Actually cancel that, it's just moved further down.

Many years of pro AFL and RU media bias, clearly exposes your response as being completely ignorant.

RU and AFL are another topic, and one I don't have time to go into now.

But this is just paranoia. There'll be 15 stories tomorrow about how great a night it was tonight, how positive it was for the game.

When those under the RL banner trip up as many times as they have done this year, we have to expect journalists to respond like this, it's their job. This particular article you can judge to be a co incidence, or sniping. Given the overwhelming amount of gushing press this week about this game, I'm willing to disregard it.

Maybe I'm ignorant, I don't know. Thanks for the tip though.

when are you muppets going to work out that controversy and drama sells like hotcakes... both for the papers and for our game?

sure, the soccer mums don't like to admit it... but at least when they are shaking their fingers at us, they are aware of us. for every 1 person that boycotts our game because of some silly issue that, in reality, doesn't concern them at all.. another 10 go "oh yeah, the footy!" and watch the next match on the telly, or go and buy a ticket to the game.

all publicity is good publicity, when it comes down to it. if the product is good enough (and i firmly believe it is) then maintaining awareness is all that is required.

Unfortunately I think it is more of a cop out as well. As hineyrulz said, she put her name to it and surely she would have read it before it went to print or put online (or am I giving her too much credit). I think she is just trying to palm the blame elsewhere.

a new low for rugby league journalism and he played no part in it.

There are so many things wrong with this I don't know where to start. So many of those stories had nothing to do with this year, had nothing to do with rugby league itself, but apparently anyone with a loose association with a club/player automatically counts as someone who can give a "black eye" to the sport.

"Craig Field is acquitted of coercing a 17 year old into staging an armed robbery"

Seriously? What the f**k? A player who hasn't been involved with NRL clubs for how long is acquitted - for shame rugby league, for shame.

The Roosters announcing their coaching swaps - for shame.

Joel Clinton being dropped for bringing a chick to his hotel. It was an error of judgement, nothing illegal.

Ikin quitting because he doesn't want to be involved in a story about his father's collapsing business - how dare he, for shame rugby league.

Don't even get me on Sonny Fai being included, and notice how half a dozen incidents are included with 3-4 seperate articles. Just a nice way of padding it out a little more.

Very sad effort from all involved.

I agree. I also think being outraged by the inclusion of Sonny Fai's death is being a tad oversensitive. The story was about bad things happening during the year - the tragic death of a player is surely about the worst thing that happened.

Anthony Watmough was arrested by police following sponsor altercation????
I must have missed it, I think they investigated but no charges laid...
Glen Jackson must have some other evidence(?) for his reporting of so-called facts...

I'm sure when most people looked at which paper to buy this morning and so that sh*te versus another paper with a massive 'Showdown' headline I'm pretty sure which one they chose.

I'm even found myself buying the Daily Telegraph recently to keep up with the hype and I'm in Brisbane. He's another conspiracy - they always hide Sydney papers behind the Melbourne at the newsagent.

Well, I doubt their handlers would rather them not report stories like how RU test matches rate lower than Neighbours etc....

Sent an email to our friend Magnay and got a similar copout response, saying she had no idea on the timing of the article and the inclusion of Sonny Fai.

That is disgusting to include Sonny Fai's name in that picture.

A picture titled "Leagues Annus Horribilus" with police tape all around it, Zapia, Johns, Stewart etc and they threw in Fai's name??? That shows what absolute scum the "journalists" who come up with this stuff are.
