That hurts. Costigan filled in admirably (played great tbh) but Smith is one of the top 3 locks in the comp

how about swap neville and young ... play nev at dummy half and young at lock ... young can still do the ruck work in defence but nev does pass better out of dummy half .. (not that the bar is set very high)

We seriously miss Smith around the ruck.

He is niggly and gets in there and gives a hard dig.
I want to see him on the park as soon as he is fit again.

Massive loss for us, whislt Neville is filling in well

One out of left field: I think that whilst J. Smith is on leave, we could do worse than move Dell into lock. When the big fella gets tired, he interchanges with Costigan, and Florence gets a chance to play a reasonable stint on the wing.

Whatever...

Dell is destined to play the last year of his career in the backrow anyway, why not get it started with a limited stint...
So you want to put him where there is the hardest defensive workload, right in the middle of the field?

Ignoring the fact that he has never been a great defender, his fitness wouldn't even be close to good enough, you're taking him from a spot where he needs to make 5 tackles in a game to 30.. He'd need to defend wider or we'd be lucky to get 30 minutes out of him a game. At a stretch he could play 2nd row in limited minutes but it is not an ideal situation. We have plenty of back rowers, there is no need to do it at this point. Scott, then Cooper would be ahead of Sailor if we were that short for the 2nd row and needed backline players to fill the void.

just a heads up, this is currently dell's last year of his career...

i also won't mention the fact that his name was being thrown around as a bolter for a QLD origin wing spot.

but hey, i recommend forwarding your suggestion to:

waynebennett@dragons.com.au

if he makes the change, i'll be sure you get the kudos, and i'll the team listing page in big league.

You'll make sure I get the kudos? So much power to grant the little people their wishes... Oh, wise one, how does it feel to be ever so clever?

By the way...
I don't recall saying that Dell would be playing out his career at the Dragons. Oh, wait, let me check... Nup. Didn't happen. He'll be playing again next year. Somewhere.

And just an FYI - when the papers haven't got a story to fill enough column space, they fluff up a story about a guy they know sells papers -Dell has roughly the same chance of pulling on a Maroon jersey this year as Wally.
