Snowden Signs

Thursday, June 15, 2006 - Newcastle Knights

Rising star, Kade Snowden has agreed to terms with the Newcastle Knights to wear the blue and red for at least another two years.

A former Australian Schoolboy, Snowden has progressed through the ranks of Harold Matthews and SG Ball to cement his position in the Jersey Flegg Front Row, and is widely regarded as a future NRL First Grader, having already played in the top grade in 2005.

The Knights Jersey Flegg squad is undefeated after 14 Rounds and has a mid season break this weekend with the bye.

In other retention news, the Newcastle Knights have extended Jersey Flegg and New South Wales Under 19s winger, Akuila Uate’s contract for a further season, taking him to the end of 2008.

Newcastle held its final training session today before departing for Auckland tomorrow morning at 7.00am.

Origin stars, Danny Buderus and Steve Simpson were given the day off training and will undergo fitness assessments tonight.

Premier League Fullback, Nathan Hinton will also travel with the side.

Meanwhile, admission is free for supporters wanting to catch live football action, with the Newcastle Knights Premier League hosting Balmain at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Saturday.

Gates open at 11.00am, kickoff at 12.00pm.

Fantastic news for the club - both Snowden and Uate have very bright futures ahead of them. Actually reminds me that there was an article on Uate in this weeks RLW...I'll have it posted in no time, guys :)

If they are taking a fullback to NZ with them is there any suggestion that Seage or someother back is not 100%

Great stuff.

the Newcastle Knights have extended Jersey Flegg and New South Wales Under 19s winger, Akuila Uate’s contract for a further season, taking him to the end of 2008.

Wonder if this would have something to do with making sure all our backline prospects' contracts don't expire at the same time? Given that we're pretty much resigned to losing the majority of the current one as it is in a short period of time. Either way it looks good, he's in someone's sights at least.

Looks like those 2 will definetly be apart of the top 25 squad next year if they werent already this year.

Great news for the club.. I cant wait til Tolar re-signs though!

I don’t think I would of signed aku just yet. I think it would have been worth our while to wait and see how he goes next year before signing him again. A bit premature IMO. He struggles in PL (I know its because he is only young) but singing him ahead of looking at our guys who are off contract eg tolar was a bit silly by management.

If we dont lock him in for an extension, someone will offer him a huge deal to change clubs.... thats how we lost Bird, Franze and many other promising juniors.

I dissagree, but we will soon find out. I think he will have a career ending injury if he continues to play PL, he looks too soft.

You don't know a lot about the world of football, do you? It's called taking a risk. We can risk the very unlikely chance of him picking up a season ending injury (career ending!? Do those even happen anymore?) or we can have him poached from us and have him turn into the superstar we know he will be.

Im officially glad I didn't except your proposal CWB, considering you don't back me up or anything ;-)

He went down in the first 5 minutes of playing his first PL game, most guys would be nervous, but not nervous enough to fake an injury. It just makes me wonder what he will do if he does play against the real boys.

We wouldn't have been getting married until you'd attended the proper diction and finishing classes, my dear.

I think it was a little more than 5 minutes, he did score in that game as well. He came back on after the injury. I think you are doing a fair bit of assuming by claiming he was faking it. If he were that type of bloke he wouldn't have taken up the game in the first place. He'll be playing first grade next year.

I've been watching Kade for 3 years now and he is a royal machine, a no-frills version of Sonny-Bill as I like to call him.

The kid needs to see top grade very soon. His debut last year was terrible due to the injury concerns and weak forward pack but along guys like Simpson, Newton and Smith, Kade will thrive. I have no doubts in it.

Otherwise, I'll be happy to recruit him for the Bulldogs and pay him out of my own pocket.

he said he was very overwhelmed with PL when he was taken off!!

CWB Your dictation isn't always up to speed also remember, everyone makes mistakes. I pity the poor girl/guy who accepted your proposal.

On the news last night in an interview with Snowden he said he was going to leave until he spoke to Smith. Smith told him that he was an important part of his plans for the club, and that he hoped Kade would stay. Apparently that impressed Snowden (the fact that Smith had noticed and followed his progress) that was the main reason he re-signed.
