So is it Catt Utai or is he being coached to lay down?

Like all league fans I felt Utai’s dive and subsequent feigning injury from the Morley slap was a low life cat act, something you’d see on a soccer field.

But then I read this in the Sydney Boring Herald
“Some rival players have told our players - while out socially - that they have been told by their coaches that any tackle from Morley that is anywhere within the vicinity of the head or shoulders is enough and they should lay down ... and get the penalty”

Now seeing how one Willie Mason has been seen socialising recently with his future teammates at the Roosters, I got to thinking that maybe it’s big Willie who’s airing these dirty tactics?

Which brings me back to my original question, was Catt Utai’s feigning something he’s been practicising or just another inititative from Fiberglass Folksie’s dirty tricks play book?

Bulldogs or Bullcats?

Chook.

Utai got hit high, so he had every right to stay down. As does every other player in the NRL. If Morley gets hit high, he can stay down too.

In the end, the referee should have got it right.

Puhlease!! Utai runs through 3 and 4 defenders to score tries, yet one little tickle on his chin from Mozza and he dives like Greg Leganous?? I didn't realise Mozza slapped so hard and that Utai was so soft

Morley's been cleared of his "head hunting" by the way...

Smith charged, Morley cleared
April 18, 2005

CANBERRA five-eighth Jason Smith faces up to three weeks on the sidelines after being charged with a dangerous throw by the NRL match review committee today.

But Sydney Roosters forward Adrian Morley has no case to answer despite being sent off for a high tackle in their 29-16 win in the grand final re-match against the Bulldogs on Friday night.

Smith was hit with a grade two dangerous throw for his 15th minute tackle on Manly backrower Anthony Watmough in the Sea Eagles' 36-14 win over the Raiders yesterday.

Smith will receive three weeks if found guilty but will be sidelined for only two with an early plea. But British forward Adrian Morley was not mentioned on the charge sheet.

The review committee believed the penalty was sufficient for Morley who looked harshly dealth with when sent off for a tackle on Bulldogs winger Matt Utai.

The tackle was dismissed by Bulldogs coach Steve Folkes as "a playful slap to the face".
In other judiciary news, Raiders skipper Simon Woolford has been charged with a grade one careless high tackle and faces up to two weeks out.

And St George Illawarra lock Shaun Timmins faces a week on the sidelines after being charged with a grade two careless high tackle.

Timmins knocked out Brisbane fullback Karmichael Hunt in a sixth-minute tackle during the Broncos' 34-24 win over the Dragons at Wollongong yesterday."

I'll ask you again, is Utai a cat or is he being coached to lay down?

Chook you are a joke. Morely is a cheap shot merchant captained by another cheap shot merchant.

Utai was hit high and illegally. Get over it.

Sore bloody winners!

The referee had every right to penalise Morley for the shot.

The mistake was made when he sent Morley off.

Utai did absolutley nothing wrong.

Shouldn't that be a sign to Morley and Stuart that he should try and not hit people high anymore. And there is no way you can pass this off as Morley being unjustifiably targeted either, you keep on doing the same crime and of course you will be watched closer. Think of Craig Smith and his head high tackles and knees when he was at the Dragons. No-one elses fault.

By the way, why is it people are allowed to be so selective with which quotes they are allowed to use for there advantage and which aren't allowed to be used against them. Just about every sports journalist is bagged on here until they write something that either agrees with or helps support certain supporters arguments. Who was the person quoted in the SMH?

Players are going to dive as long as they get hit high and have the video ref to look at it.

Answer: Don't hit high.

While the tackle wasn't worth a send-off, it was worth a penalty. You can't blame Utai for the send-off, and you can't blame him for getting coat-hangered.

If Morley wasn't sent off he would have got atleast 2 weeks with his record. Whilst I don't agree with the send off, this is one time it has worked in Morley's favour, and it atually helped the Roosters to win as strange as that sounds.

Morley doesn't get marched the Roosters probably lose, because going with Morley to the dressing room was the pressure to perform, no one, not even me expected them to win with 12, there was no pressure, it seemed like it opened a big release valve. Time will tell if it carries on and the Roosters start to perform, but the send off was a bad call that worked for them.

No where have I tried to defend Morley or the fact that the tackle was high, but even Utai's coach claims it to be "a playful slap to the face" yet he went down like he was shot!! IE- he took a dive off he's own bat and he's a cat or he's been coached into taking dives.

I have simply asked for clarification on which is it and as yet none of you have answered that simple question.

Karmichael Hunt yesterday received an "actual" swinging arm against the dragons and suffered concussion, yet he made three times the effort to get back to his feet than what Catt Utai did. Except of course once Morley was sent off Catt jumped back to his feet pretty quickly

Personally I think Utai stayed down like the cat he is, I can't see folkes coaching his players to use dirty tactics. But then we only have to think back to the fiberglass shoulder pads...

Chook.

pffft.

I don't like players feigning injury to get a penalty but it's been happening since Dally Messenger first signed up to play League.

It happens in all contact sports, just be thankful it'll never reach Soccer's proportions.

Besides, it's not like the Roosters are cleanskins in regard to diving. Shit, there isn't a team that is.

A lot of teams players lie down to gain a penatly and it's been going on for years.

Even the Roosters players take a dive when the situation warrents it.

players know that with the video ref being able to be called on to look at incidents if they stay down they are likley to get a penatly.

Simpkins over reacted.

Had it been Ryan Cross who got slapped by Mark O'Meley and he stayed down got O'Meley sent off you idiot Rooster fans would be calling it a great play.

You asked if he was a cat or if he was coached to lie down.

Neither.

He was hit in the head by a thug with a problem.

It is the job of the Roosters to fix it.

Funny i dont see Morley as a dirty player, just someone who goes hard n unfortunately goes to high with some hits.
Dirty players are the chris walkers of the world, hair pull face palming when the player is down etc.

There is no problem to fix, Morley has been cleared so it's either one of the first two...which is it?
