TBF the AFL, RU and RFL all managed to work a deal with News without being taken over. It was only the ARL that failed to do this. The SL fiasco was purely News Ltd inspired but I find it hard to believe that ARL mismanagement had no part in it all.

As said it is water under the bridge and the only three things left to repair are the renationalisation of our game with a WA and SA team, The Bears to get a franchise on the CC and News to F52k off from being part owners. If us fans that got raped during that time can move on it's about time fans of clubs who are still around did so also.

It was a bit different there... no "war" and breakaway competition, or fight for power between two pay TV operators. It was more just a sponsorship/broadcasting deal with conditions over there, apples and oranges.

Both organisations have far too much say in the way the game is run.

fairfax are right though.

gallop and news ltd media have been shown to be dead wrong.

gallops justification for AFLs better tv deals included they have better crowds. he also said we should add the NZ TV rights to our own when clearly they are separate deals.

gallop is lieing atm. some in the media are buying, some arent

RL made Foxtel a profitable network. by getting the rights it also eliminated the opposition.

the value of news ltd 25% share would surely make up for their costs of SL.

without RL the network would not be making money so the value of their equity there is because of rl.

Foxsports still makes a profit after buying the NRL from PMG media group (owner by packer and murdoch) for around $60 million more than they pay the nrl each year

:lol: @ the people who think RL in Brisbane is only the Broncos.

My club DID get axed, mate. I was a staunch West Panthers supporter in the Qld Cup/BRL. Lived in north-west Brisbane, played for the red and blacks as a junior and was as big a Wests fan as Broncos fan!

They haven't played in the top grade for around 4-5 years now. So, by Front Row Forums (NSW) standards, I guess I've got another 9 years of starting threads, whinging and bitching left.

Or, I can shrug my shoulders, realise it's out of my control and still enjoy local league despite the absence of my team...
