The Tomahawks have qualified.

Now they need to put together as competitive squad as possible.

Sponserships and Government funding should both come now, and maybe some RLIF help as well.

Hopefully this will mean money to send the best team possible to play many tests over the next two years, and also to fund training and coaching staff to get the best players ready.

Would government funding be a typical government response in the US? I know it is in other parts of the world but League is a decent sized sport for other countries. Relatively speaking League is a tiny sport to the Americans. Would they be able to get the attention of the government?

If I were doing this i'd identify a squad of about 30 players who are prepared to do the work needed to get up to a pro level as soon as possible, and spend money on coaching and training for them immediately.

This is a major sporting event with worldwide TV coverage and 100s of thousands attending games (aggragate number).
America would embaress themselves by showing up with a sub standard team.
There is plenty of government money for sports funding in the US. Up till now League hasn't had a good case for funding, but now they do.

First things first, they need to sort out the situation with the two competitions. It would be embarrassing going into the WC with things as they are now, and there's no way the team can move forward at international level until things are sorted.

Completely separate issue.

It will be great when that is sorted, but the WC goes on whether it is or not.

Of course it does. But at the moment it's as if the national team and the domestic game are seperate entities. For RL in the USA to reap the benefits, for government funding and everything else you mentioned, everyone needs to be on the same page and working together to move forward.

and your way forward is to throw oil on the fire yet again?

It will be sorted when it is sorted.

You don't have to drag down all the positives by banging on about all the negatives you can think of.

Self destruction is the RL way, but just for now i'd rather look at positives.

Thanks for ruining the buzz - arsehole.

I'm not throwing oil on any fire. Before you can start making grand plans about government funding or whatever, it has to be acknowledged that there are major basic issues in the USA that need resolving first. The fact that the Tomahawks have qualified doesn't make these issues any less relevant, in fact it makes them more relevant. Now is the time to put pathetic disputes aside and start working together for the betterment of the game.

To be competitive against Wales and the Cooks the US will need to draw its players from as wide a pool as possible. Hopefully a bit of outside mediation will be able to help ease the current situation. Looking for sponsorship - state or private - the current situation wouldn't be helpful.

Evil homer is an emo, wrist slitting tosser who has never had a single positive input to League.
Dragging down the game yet again on a day that all real fans of the game in America are cheering is the sort of thing that happens more and more in this forum, and is the reason American fans have abandoned the place.
Americans are trying to get over the rift.
Poms and Aussies can't even take a minute off on a great day for American League from their constant attempts to foster animosity in the American ranks.

The last few American fans who bother with this forum will probably be gone after they see what a bunch of tossers you guys are.

Everyone's pleased that they made it through, they deserve it - they've clearly got the best domestic setup and the most talent out of their qualifying group, and potentially more to offer the game than any other country. Congrats to everyone involved.

but mate you said it yourself - they need to put out the best possible squad for their WC campaign if they want to have a snowballs chance in hell against Wales. Ask yourself - how can this be achieved? hint - the answer isn't government funding. If you think this is malicious shit slinging then you need a dose of reality.

Using every opportunity to drag out the tired old cliches and talk up a rift that only the Americans can heal through compromise is mindless mud slinging that serves no purpose other than to inflame the situation.

Posters on this forum are stuck in a time warp. They haven't moved past the events of this time last year. All the Americans are looking for ways to fix it, not looking to trade purile insults.

You don't know what you're talking about. There is no US government agency that oversees sports, they're all on their own for raising funds. Only the US Olympic Committee has any official relationship with the US government.
