So Which Play Was Worse...

Rogers with a few minutes to play, chip and chase attempt in attacking half 6 points up; or
Dureau kicking across field, first tackle, own 20 metres, 2 points down.

(Measurements are approximate...)

After the pasting Rogers got for the chip play, Dureau should be getting it deluxe this week. I know Mullen and Rogers were both off the field but if I don't think I've seen a worse, low percentage, riskier play in a long long time...

He is not the answer no matter what the question is.

If its the one I'm thinking of...Gidleys attempt was far worse!!! And in any case it was a great play as Sau nearly streaked away with it! Our (in this case Scottys) hand was forced given the situation.

Smart football tells me to hold the football when I’m in front with a short time left on the clock.

2 down with a short time on the clock tells me to score anyway possible, Gidley proved that with his shocker that we just got plain lucky on.

Seriously you can't see how the situations were far different?

He seemed to pull out rubbish each time he had the ball. He is just not suited to that impact role. Rogers at 14 is much better. With guys like Mullen, Gids and De Gois in the starting side I'd rather have Dureau at 7 and Rogers at 14.

It was D-U-M-B

Benchwarmer is now known as the Momentum Killer.

He is Orford like in the amount of times he gives possession to the opposition with bad options when the Knights are on the attack with a rush of the blood poor kick.

Even worse than that scrum decision he made, was the chip kick Momentum Killer did into the in goal with the Knights deep on the attack, THAT ACTUALLY WENT OVER THE DEAD BALL LINE ON THE FULL, it was just pathetic.

Read what sneaky_is_here wrote.

When Dureau kicked it, my first thoughts were, this is a great play. It was worth a shot due to the game situation

Oh yeah, worth a shot because by then he'd already kicked out dead on the full when we had a chance at closing out the game??

Whatever.

Truly pathetic.

How many tries do you see teams score by putting up a pure speculator low percentage play from a kick on your own 20m ( WHEN THE ENTIRE TIGERS TEAM WAS EXPECTING IT ) anyway?

I see wave #2534728 of Dureau hate from Mr Agenda didn't take too long :p

Do you rate Farah by any chance Karma? He did the same as Dureau earlier with a short kick out on the full...

What would you have done at halfback with 2 mins go to and 2 behind? Just pass the ball on to one of the forwards throughout the set and boot it up on the end at the last to surrender the game?

Edit: How about you direct your agenda towards the rest of the team who got us in that position in the first place - rather than your favourite supersub who was thrust into the main playmaking job in the team (yes, the one that helps create tries) when we needed a last ditch attempt at points, and who very nearly became a better supersub than Craig Wing ever was for NSW with the kick to Sau at the end!

a fullback chip kicking is the dumbest thing ever. he is the only one who can reclaim it as everyone else is offside

The first paragraph is rubbish as I don't care what he did before hand. That is irrelevent to what happened at that critical moment in play.

I stand by my opinion that the play dureau did was worth a shot.

If there's ever a time for a miracle play it's 2 points down with 2 to go - and you don't wait till they are expecting it on the last play - you do it when they don't expect it.
Best play possible. If it works he is a genius, and if it doesn't work we don't die wondering if it would have.

Farah's grubber kick when on the attack easily went dead, but not on the full mate, plus his impact on the game itself - any game - is just a LITTLE bit more than Momentum Killer so I think I could live with that...

What would I have done?

Ran the set of six out, held onto the ball, and see if maybe towards the end of the set, the Knights would have been 20-30 metres out from the Tigers try line and put up a speculator BOMB on their try line instead! Surely a better % play than the one he chose!

Anything other than a cross field kick the entire Tigers team was ready for!

Sure we might want a miracle play, but at least give the miracle play a better chance of actually working.

Alex28 put this thread out here for me probably, and I bit.

I'm not blaming Momentum Killer for the loss, but he sure did nothing to change my belief that he is a very very ordinary NRL quality halfback.

Dureau should obviously have called for a time out and discussed his options for a miracle play with the coaching staff and all the players. Just thinking up something and giving it a shot was obviously exceeding his authority.

Roopy they were down by 2 points.

They only needed to get into good field position and give themselves a chance at a PENALTY goal, or at least closer to the Tigers tryline before the low percentage speculator!

Anyway, this is to not take away from the Knights themselves. This discussion is purely Dureau and why he is a poor number 7.

By no means his fault, but emphasises how his rush of the blood poor options can cost the Knights dearly.

They played well the Knights overall, but they don't have a very good back up to Mullen/Rogers.

Giving something a shot didn't exceed his authority, but unfortunately the challenge itself obviously exceeded his talent.

Rubbish. It was a desperation play. We'd made metres up the middle all day through the likes of Faaoso, McManus, Taia et al and it was a play that made us 10 metres at best and had 3 Tigers players either competing for the ball (which would have given them great field position) or waiting for Sau to get the ball. First tackle - that's what p*ssed me off the most. 4th or 5th I get, but our last full set and that is your first play? F*ck me...

His coach will be happy he tried to win the game.
He might give him a different plan for next time he is in the situation, but he will be happy he kept trying.

He was our only real option Roopy - Mullen and Rogers were both off and Gidley had to stay back. I was astounded that we didn't at least try to eat metres up the middle of the field first. The option taken gave was not only risky but gave the defence plenty of time to set themselves to either have a go at the ball or tackle Sau.

He panicked - had no idea what to do...

Rubbish - I wish i had a dollar for every time i've seen him do something totally out of left field when in the same circumstances.
Not only have i seen him do it, but i've seen it work.
Last year we were 12 points down against Newtown in NSW cup with less than 10 to go and he pulled off two miracle plays for two tries, kicked two goals, and potted a 35 metre field goal right on the siren.
It's what he does.

Roopy, your love of comparing first graders football skills to those played in grades way lower is a bit of a stretch mate even for you.

I've seen superstars playing park footy too.
