So who do Queensland need to get rid of?

- Hunt should come into the team, he adds a lot of enthusiasm and has some aggro with his kick returns. Bowen should go to the bench. Hunt also has a combination with Lockyer. Qld need some fluency and cohesion in attack.
- I actually thought Berrigan had a good game tonight. He was one of the only Qld players who got any ground and managed to get up and play the ball quickly. I'd put him in the centres for the next game. Out goes ......
- Bell, I didn't think he was great tonight, he just doesn't add go forward. Tate made a couple of errors but he was pretty good running it back. Don't think he deserved too much stick for his effort tonight. He should get another go.
- Take out Scott + Stagg or Johnson. Scott added very little and Qld needs more aggression, size and go forward. Their forwards got monstered tonight, they need to make changes there. I would consider playing Hanant because he is tough and gets meters. I can't really think who else there is for Qld, maybe Learoyd and Tronc.
- Qld missed Webcke so much tonight. Price and Webb failed to really carry the team forward. Petero was a bit better, he seemed to penetrate.

Our attack concerns me a little bit, but what worries me most is when NSW go up a gear and really monster our forwards. Qld's focus should be on picking a team that is going to go forward more, and that includes picking backs that are good at carting it forward. If Qld can get more of a roll on then their attack will instantly improve. We lack penetration.

And Lockyer made so many mistakes for QLD tonight. He pretty much cost them the game in the hand with his stupidity
Compared to his defensive efforts of previous series, his defence was sublime; though unfortunately for QLD, his attack was as sh*thouse as it was last series. Game 2 should be his very last chance to impress at 5/8, otherwise it's back to FB, or on to the scrap heap.

Of the debutants, Nate Myles was far and away the best of the bunch; this guy is made for Origin. Stagg was shown up as too small, Thaiday was strong in his unusually short stint, Johnson was solid aside from that cheap kick to Buderus, and I don't think Matt Scott is up to origin at this stage.

My side for game 2:

1. Bowen
2. Tate
3. Hodges
4. Bell
5. Inglis
6. Lockyer
7. Thurston
8. Price
9. Smith
10. Civoniceva
11. Webb
12. Myles
13. Johnson or Carroll (if Johnson is suspended)

Bench: Berrigan, Thaiday, Learoyd-lars, Shillington

Why isnt Corey Parker being considered by anyone? I thought he's been one of Brisbane's best in the games ive seen this year.

Stagg's numbers for tonight:

runs: 3
metres: 21
tackles: 18

unacceptable.

Not great but he was tehre for his defence and defensively he was ok. I still would not have him in the next game though.

So we need Lockyer at pivot for his defence???????

What are forwards for?

Lockyer should be fullback. But hold that thought for a sec.

Cameron Smith needs to do more at hooker if he is to advance his career. Wing and Bedsy outplayed him tonight, and Smith now offers very little.

Matt Bowen also needs to stand up. He's an elite player, and like Smith, needs to be achieving more on the paddock.

I reckon also Rhys Wesser would be great for Queensland, but they need effective halves!

So, what about:

1 Heather
2 Inglis
3 Hodges
4 Bell
5 Slater
6 Bowen
7 Thurston
.
.
.
14 Jason Smith

Queensland are more predictable than the South Sydney jersey design committee.

I think Smith is too slow for Origin football... he's just not dynamic enough. I'm showing my Cowboys bias a bit here but I think Aaron Payne would offer a better running game out of dummy half.

I think ur onto something there... I mean Bowen would be better off at 2nd receiver because he would get his hands on the ball more, and for his lethal combination with Thurston. Smith won't play at origin again, he's retired from rep footy and would struggle coming off the bench anyway imo. Instead i'd put payne in on the bench for a bit of spark from dummy half.

really we need a tackling machine with sting !

I'd keep Johnson, but only just at this point

other options to juggle with the bench

Flannery
Shillington
Parker

thats about it ... we could use the in form Crocker big time

Oink !

I'd be happy with flannery on the bench if he were there just to tackle, i dont want him anywhere near the backline tho. And yes shillington looked impressive in the game on tv the other day

If they want to pick defensive players I don't see how Caroll could do any worse than Stagg or Johnson and offer less in attack. He puts on hits all the time. Qld need some sting.

Also what about Tronc and Hannant? Its a pity Carlaw got injured he was playing a lot better and he's actually proven himself in origin. He would have got a run. We need strength and Yards.

the only reason i suggest we need a tackler to work in tandem with Johnson is because we at least seem to have some option in the bigger men department

Price, Petero, Webb, Thaiday, Shillington, Parker, Myles ... but its the mobile smaller forward that we lack currently that we need to compliment our bigger guys

just my opinion

Oink !
