So who do Queensland need to get rid of?

ok, this thread has raised some valid points, but IMO the drmatic changes that u are calling fro is like as if weve lost by 50, we lost by a FG, so not too many dramtic changes. C Smith is the 2nd best hooker in the game, only just, but his streth lies in ball playing and not running, but for him to be effective, QLD need to sort out their style, too many times today lockyer and thurston kickied from under pressure at 1st receiver, for the storm, smith does a brillinat job kciking from 1st receiver and out of d half. Smith's passing game in general play is also dynamic, which wasnt used today, so he should stay, and as should lockyer at 5/8 and thurston at half. And from Telstra Stadium it appeard that bowen was better from FB, he did make alot of half-breaks, and inglis was decent at wing as well, so keeo that there. Only change that is needed is a serious rethinking of the forward pack, where we got toally dominated today, Stagg - out, Scott - bench, Shillington - In, and Webb - strating 2ndrow. And payne shoudl definately be on the bench instead of berrigan.

So we need Lockyer at pivot for his defence???????

What are forwards for?

Lockyer should be fullback. But hold that thought for a sec.

Cameron Smith needs to do more at hooker if he is to advance his career. Wing and Bedsy outplayed him tonight, and Smith now offers very little.

Matt Bowen also needs to stand up. He's an elite player, and like Smith, needs to be achieving more on the paddock.

I reckon also Rhys Wesser would be great for Queensland, but they need effective halves!

So, what about:

1 Heather
2 Inglis
3 Hodges
4 Bell
5 Slater
6 Bowen
7 Thurston
.
.
.
14 Jason Smith

Queensland are more predictable than the South Sydney jersey design committee.

Matt Bowen defending in the centre of the park? Do you have a brain?

I've never seen someone get smashed as consistently as Johnson. He didn't belong out there.

For once I agree with you.

Same goes for Stagg and Scott, they aren't Origin players.

Qld have to do something about their backrow. Insanity choosing Scott out of position after what 5 club games. Qld needed to change things a little but someone in the selection room got a little carried away.

Parker definitely should be in the team as well as Tonnie Carroll for some experience.

Johnson, and Stagg didn't belong out there, they can both make tackles but offensively they offer absolutely nothing, also Tate was terrible, and witty's fan said he deserved to be there btw.

Thom LEaroyd Lahrs could replace Stagg or Johnson. This kid is like 116kg and 190cm tall or something like that, plus he can run 100m in 11sec, not bad for a big bopper! TLL would have been selected had he played for any other team bar the Raiders. He deserves a crack.
Aaron Payne would add to QLDs spark from dummyhalf, something Smith doesn't do.

Its funny to see so many calling for the old Kiwi guys to be called up; Thorn and Carroll and the young Kiwi Hunt.

Come on QLD, can't you dig up some true QLDers who want to play for their state????

For shame...

Guys, there is some conjecture as to which state Learoyd-Lahrs qualifies for. I'm yet to see anything conclusive to suggest he is a Queenslander.

Pity for him if he isn't, I think he'd easily fit into the Queensland side.

Dallas went OK out there, he did what he was supposed to do which was tackle, tackle and tackle. He's never going to be confused with Ron Coote.

Stagg is the one who will be dropped and big TLL will get a go.

whilst i think the whole backrow should go, I will just point out that soem players take several years to develop into good origin players - Hindmarsh being a player who comes to mind. his first few series were pretty ordinary at ebst and he was accused of being intimidated.

some of these players tonight didnt have a did, or werent able to go up a gear that was needed./ in future years this may change.

As for berrigan being dropped, he was one of qld's best, i'm thinking he should be put in at lock

I think they should go with the same team.

The debutants were just overawed. from the first hitup they played in slow motion. It is a miracle that Qld got within a point. Still, they eventually wore out the big and slow NSW pack, who were not all that much better. This was probably the worst Origin game (standard wise) of all time.

Consider this, Tate was as rusty as they come, he got better in the second half and caused NSW major problems as he got used to the pace of the game. Had he not played so poorly in the first half, Queensland win the game.

Inglis was all at sea in the first half, absolutely woeful. He finally settled down and ended up playing reasonably well. Without the uncharacteristic bad start Qld win the game. He will be much better next week.

Bell wascaught out of position a couple of times due to not being a winger. Again, he improved in the second half and will learn from his mistakes. Other than positional errors he looked reasonably strong defensively. He will better next game (assuming they dont bring in Slater to replace him).

Hodges, started very nervously (probably because of his previous origin experience). He improved markedly and will be better.

Lockyer, no matter what happens he will not play any worse. If he played even half as good as he is capable of, Queensland have won the game. Personally, i'd like him at fullback for most of the game, but no matter what happens he will be better next time.

Thaiday, will not be kept on the bench until the 60th minute and he seemed to make a pretty big difference to the side when he came on.

The backrow is much maligned, but they were all on debut, and despite NSW running roughshod they seemed to tackle the forwards all day and didnt tire, eventually allowing Qld to finish on top. They deserve a second chance and none of them will play worse than their debut.

The kicking game, surely couldnt be any worse than it was. This is the major problem with Qld since Wally Lewis retired and the main reason why Queensland no longer dominate. If there was an average player in the Qld Cup, Country football or anywhere else, who could kick the ball consistently long and where they want it, I would play him at 5/8, because qlds kickers are woeful. Still, thurston, Smith and Lockyer cannot kick as poorly as they did last night.

In my opinion there should be no more than one or two changes. This was supposedly the best side that could be chosen before last night and still is. They only lost by a point and the selectors must have knew that some of the debutants would struggle a bit on debut in NSW.

Why do people keep blaming Meninga?

An origin coach doesnt coach anything, they simply have to fire up the team - the rest is done well before they get involved.

How else do you think Fatty had a 3-0 cleansweep way back in the 90s.

As for TLL, he should walk into the team if eligible but the NSWRL are blocking his application. Surely they had their fun by rorting Crocker's suspension length? Now they need to block our young players as well!

NSW are scummy chumps.

Meninga is a sh*t coach... a big part of NSW's dominance has been better coaching and better gameplans. The Raudonikis approach can't and doesn'twork - getting fired up is over-rated, but makes good tv

Very good post. I like your unemotional approach, and concur with your thoughts. However dude, if they run this team again, Mal needs to coach to there strengths and not run with that game plan again. I would not pick one of the backrow again, or at least start with Webb.

Prince- no thanks, not on this year's form. If we were to go down this road i'd have Cooper Cronk.
Thaiday is a bench player, impact player. I don't think he has started more than a handfull of games, if any for the broncos. Won't happen.
I'd have Slater on one of the wings. Possibly Tom Leyroyd Lars in the second row. I'd have Nate Myles who was good on the bench and Shaun Berrigan who was good (by his standards) as he can cover centre and 2nd row.
