Cant believe the comments on Gidley, he presided over the most ridiculously irresponsible spending our club has gone through, so thats ok "its not his fault". So now that Mooney & Brown have come in & righted the ship he's suddenly the mastermind behind it all! Both scenarios show he's just a yes man to anything, except now he's a yes man to smart people not spending monopoly money & bugger the consequences. The buck stops with him, he signs the cheques & has since he started in the job, the only cleverness he has shown is to sidestep the blame, it was all on Hagan & Co. A clean slate is needed, imagine Mooney & Brown working with a real smart operator with real business acumen & runs on the board, that would really set us up for a terrific future. P.S it's not the right forum but I'm hoping Chanel No 5 is never selected again, is a clueless impostor!

I don't have a problem with a clean slate if Wests think that is in the best interests of the club.

What I do believe is that Gidley went from being a very green and naïve CEO when he started in this role (effectively a first year apprentice...with very poor 'tradies' instructing him - including Tinkler, Bennett, Hagan and Co) to one who has come out the other side of this as a qualified CEO that has learnt a lot (admittedly, some of it the hard way) and is now potentially a very effective operator.

My only concern with losing him is that we have seen him through his development and just when he will provide a return on investment you cut him loose to benefit others.

So, is he clear of all blame in what has happened at the club under his CEO-ship - no...but is he the same inexperienced operator that was not savvy enough to hold his own in his early years as the CEO of a very different animal back then, also no for me.

So I do afford him some credit (under the guidance of the board, in spite of Mcguigan's involvement) that we are also where we are now because he was involved in the selection of Brown (and Mooney) and has helped to oversee the clearing of our roster and the current recruitment and retention strategy we current employ.

Is he the best available, maybe and maybe not? Is he capable of effectively continuing the role though - I'd be happy to see where we are in another 12 months of Wests ownership before throwing the baby out with the bath water

KNIGHTS chief executive Matt Gidley says the club has taken no offence after being snubbed for a dinner next week at which rival clubs will discuss the NRL’s proposal to impose a $9.2 million salary cap next season.

A host of influential officials from clubs such as the Roosters, Cronulla, Canterbury, Cronulla, Penrith, Canberra and Parramatta have been invited to a Sydney restaurant on Monday – along with NRL CEO Todd Greenberg – at which the main fare will be trying to convince the governing body to increase the cap to at least $9.5 million.

The Knights, who have been conservative in their spending estimates for next season, have publicly stated that a $9.2 million cap is their preferred outcome.

For that reason, Gidley said the lack of an invitation was understandable.

“We don’t have an issue with not being invited,’’ Gidley said.

“I think everyone knows our position with the salary cap so I’m not surprised.’’

So, do these comments from our CEO on probably the most important NRL issue the club will face in the near future fill us with confidence that he's going to fight to keep the cap where it is meant to be? The guy is an amateur.

There's no way the cap stays at 9.2 mil, we will have to deal with that. When all the most powerful clubs are ambushing the NRL you know who will win.

Didn't you say there's no way that would happen the other day???? Or did I misread your post?
