Obuchowski? I think that was his name. Only a youngster too.

He's come through the system at Skolars, only 19 years old.

Skolars are dragging the chain this year as far as international players are concerned as they are yet to sign any. However their squad is looking far more English with quite a few former Quins / Broncos academy players coming on board this year.

I don't know what happened but he was actually an English German i.e. his father is German but he's lived the vast majority of his life (if not all of it) in England.

Been shoulder charged by him couple of times. That is why I am so glad he is off to UK.

Hope he is not reading this forum, because what I can say could spoil him. You won't find better attributes in a person and sky is the limit for him.

I am watching the official video of the 2007 Serbia vs. Czech Rep Euro shield match.

Did Soni play at 13 in that match or in the centers... its hard to tell. Either way there are two very big lads in those positions and varey very capable... skilful and have a good set of legs on them. Certainly a couple Sonny Bills in that line up.

Looking at that match, there certainly is the team to be trouble for many nations in the future. Maybe this year we will see serbia blossom on the world stage finally.

He played at No.12, scored two tries in that game (Serbian third in the 1st half and second in the 2nd half, I think).

Serbian Soni tipped for big Whitehaven future By Martin Morgan

New import Soni Radovanovic is being tipped for a big future in the British game after his sparkling debut in Whitehaven’s reserve-grade win at Widnes.

The bustling Serbian international impressed second-string manager Dave Farrell in his two 20-minute stints, less than a week after jetting in to the country.
“If he continues to develop and iron out the rough edges, who knows how far he can go,” said Farrell, who believes the 21-year-old will be allowed to develop at a steady pace in the reserve-grade.
“Give him a month or two with us and see where he’s at after that. He’s a fine, powerful athlete and didn’t look out of place, which is an absolutley tremendous accolade for the guy.
“He spilled possession early on, but after that didn’t make any mistakes, ran hard and got his tackles in. He’s in a strange place, speaking a different language, but he’s very determined to succeed.”
Farrell rated the 24-22 win at Widnes, last year’s champs, as one of the second-string’s finest of recent years.
“Wins for us at Widnes are few and far between, which makes this result even more sweet and noteworthy,” he added.
The win was all the more remarkable given that the team comprised teenagers and players in their early 20s after the withdrawal of veteran half-back Tane Manihera due to a family issue.
“Tane’s withdrawal was totally understandable, but it left us with 16 players,” Farrell added. “It really was a case of the youngsters doing it for themselves.”
Haven led 14-6 at the break, courtesy of tries from ever-improving youngster Stephen Fox and Daniel Smith.
Jamie Martin, in only his second appearance, notched a third Haven try after the break to make the score 20-12.
But they went 22-20 down before two Marc Bainbridge penalties handed them the victory

Whitehaven were well beaten, but Soni had a decent game. Got through a lot of work and didn't look out of place, which is all you can ask of someone on debut.

Excellent. Is it fair to say he's the most successful player ever from a non traditional RL playing nation in continental Europe?

As far as I can remember Russian players have only either played in France or Aus, and a couple of Serbs have played at Skolars. So I think this achievement is close to the best. Lets hope he kicks on!

Well, obviously, his achievement is the biggest, having in mind that Soni is completely born and raised in non-traditional RL nation. Possibly, some Maltese, Greek or Italian boy played on higher level, but none of them were born or learnt to play football in the country they represent.
Roman Ovchinnikov played in Wests Tigers' subsidiary clubs for three months, but Whitehaven RLFC should be higher profile than these.
