Yeah but the $50K is still part of the 4.1 Million Cap. Either way, even if he took the cut, and based on that story, it was a possibility about 13 months ago, then there is still little to no cause to say "Call in the Salary Cap Auditor!" when we hear Tony is on the same sort of dough.

they have upgraded a few players contracts and i'm pretty sure Orford's staggered pay goes up next year. didn't they pay big bucks for a Newcastle player too?

young, playing out of position but gaining valuable first grade experience, stacks of potential....worth the risk in my opinion. not worth the reported money that Manly have thrown at him, and they run the risk of ruining him through the easy money that he has already earnt without proving himself.

The bloke will be a very good player, and i'm still pissed at loosing him, he's not a winger however.

There's something about Manly that makes solid first graders thrive into something much better. He chased the dollar and good luck to him.

f**k people are harsh

the kid has been solid at worst in every game he has played
eats the meters is a handle full to tackle and error and mistakes are minimal ( yes he threw the pass for the try on monday!) not to mention
he is playing on the wing a position that he has barely played before

im sorry to say it but manly made a great signing

Somebody tell me how he offers less than Grothe

Guys - re my teams (Manly's) salary cap for next year:-

Menzies is playing in the UK
Bell is playing in the UK
Bryant is playing in the UK
Afamasaga isn't being offered a contract

Orford WAS on a tiered contract. He is on 1.8 million over 4 years. The middle two years (including this one) was well above the average $450k. I believe it is something like $650k this year. Mayer said this was so that we could fit him in in 2006, and also so that we could make additional investments in his last year. Therefore, he's on about $300k next year I believe.

We have plenty of room in the cap.

In regards to Tony Williams, here is my guess at what next year may look like for us:-

01. Brett Stewart
02. Michael Robertson
03. Steve Matai
04. Jamie Lyon
05. David Williams
06. Chris Bailey
07. Matt Orford
08. Josh Perry
09. Matt Ballin
10. Brent Kite
11. Anthony Watmough
12. Luke Williamson
13. Glenn Stewart

14. Heath Le'Strange
15. Adam Cuthbertson
16. Jason King
17. Glenn Hall

Aside from injury, he will be playing reggies, or NYC. If it's NYC, his cap hit won't affect 1st grade at all.

Additionally, he won't be playing on our wing. Michael Bani re-signed for 3 years this year, and he will cover wing spots.

Then we have players like:-

George Rose
Vic Mauro
Jarred Wearra-Hargreaves
Kenny Edwards
Jason Wells
Phil Moorwood

etc who could back up the forwards.

it's the top 25

you can't pay a motza and stick players in NYC to try and stack players. it has a cap too

is he still eligible for NYC next year? he'll be 20 in December

And can someone tell me why we should have retained him by matching an offer for more money than Grothe probably gets?

Well he'll probably be a great replacement for Jack Afamasaga in our new QLD Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles team that is starting next year - our PL is being abolished.

Gotta love depth though !!

2 mistakes....granted i would consider that fairly minimal compared to
the 4 trys Grothe gifted Manly in one game earlier this year...

the kid has been solid and will be a good buy for Manly thats all im saying

not that we should have matched the money just that he will be a talent

time will tell!

I think people like MITS etc were right about Williams. He is very slow and lazy.

agreed. Did Williams even come in field looking for work? Nope not at all!

Bad hands in goal and a liability in defence.... caught out a few times in defence. How Hagan Rates 2 sh*tty wingers over Grothe is beyond me:lol:

Hagan is a dead set goose
