3 SKD - clearly our best
2 hastings - did his best with what he had
1 burgess - just for the tries

Robbo has the biggest test of his coaching career coming up until JWH, cords and pearce get back.Evans and Napa were deplorable.

Given it's round 1 i will stick with the positives, the best of which are

1. Latrell can kick goals
2. Last years grand finalists got flogged round 1
1. We have a lot of cap space to come back

Latrell needs to go to FB immediately. I don't even blame fergo. He is the best centre in the comp and there is no negative having latrell at the back.

Keep the pics in the Souths forum shadow please, they get a little tedious regardless of the subject.

Gonna have to re watch that horror show for my 3-2-1. Was just a pedestrian like performance. So disappointed our pigs couldn't get up for a Rd1 season opener against Souths.

Not a lot to take from that. Always on the back foot after souths got going early on and we had to make a heap of tackles in the heat.

Completely out enthused though which was disappointing for round 1

Line speed was terrible

Fergo needs to get the hell away from fullback. Positionally and with ball in hand he looked terrible.

SKD only positive he can have the 3, 2 and 1.

In the few touches he had, Latrell Mitchell looked really good. Usually took 3 guys to bring him down, inpressive for an 18 year old. SKD was good but he honestly needed to get that ball out to Mitchell, did he even pass it to him once?

Napa lol, Evans lol. Both got blown away and they were talking about the playing origin

Moa needs to start I think, the guys a kiwi prop ffs and JWH needs to get back on the field ASAP.

3 - SKD
2 - SST
1 - Ball Boy

Very ordinary performance, especially in defence, that is not us. Our pack besides SST can hang their heads, they got monstered by a bog average pack and need to lift.

It'll be rough waters until we get our combos working again.

On a 30 degree day, Easts had to make 101 tackles to Souffs 42 in the first 20. That would've taken the sting out of most sides but I'm not sure we would've fared better with more even possession. As Chook said, the combos will need time. The pack is leaderless and I'm disappointed that Moa didn't take up the reins with JWH missing. Fergo looks uncomfortable under a high ball and every team will exploit this. Get Mitchell in there now. Two very talented players being wasted out of position. Defence was utter shite. Hastings was missing Maloney and is going to have to get used to be the leader for the time being. I'll give him a point though. SKD was the only player to trouble the opposition so easily gets the three points. Very pleased for him after recent dramas.

3. SKD
2. SST
1. Hastings

3 points: Shaun Kenny-Dowall.
2 points: Siosiua Takeiaho.
1 point: Joe Burgess.

Well yesterday was an example of what lack of discipline and possession will do We had the ball for the first set of 6 tackles and then had to wait nearly 10 minutes to get our next set. Then when we got the ball back what happened? We turned the ball over and Souths scored again.

That lack of possession in the first 20-25 minutes saw our boys make twice as many tackles as Souths, and in the warm conditions of yesterday it would have taken its toll on the boys. Add in we only used 3 interchanges in the first half, our boys would have been low on petrol by halftime and it showed. Also why pick Vince Leuluai and leave him on the bench for the first 60 minutes?

I can understand why Robinson picked Ferguson at fullback. He stated last year his intent about how he intended to blood Latrell Mitchell. If you had watched any of the Toyota Cup games last year, when Latrell played fullback (as due to injuries he played a fair bot of five eight last year) whilst he is good with ball in hand, his positioning, especially in defence, is not that great. He may not be the answer yet for fullback despite Fergo's flaws.

Souths just outplayed us yesterday. :(

I think with positions 1-7 it really is just about getting combinations happening and obviously getting Pearce back at some point.

Latrell may not be an immediate success at FB but we all know Fergo will be an immediate success at centre and form a lethal right side combination with SKD that no side will look forward to facing.

For me the forwards were the big worry, on paper we had a much better pack and a better bench but the forwards dogged it, Napa and Evans especially. I think Moa needs to start and one of the other two (probably Napa) goes to the bench.

Finally, why we have Ian Henderson on the bench given the reduced interchange and the fact Jake can play 80 minutes is beyond me. Surely another young forward would be the best option and Maubo can cover any injuries to the 6/7/9.

I suspect he's really loves the Roosters deep down. I'd estimate 80% of his 2k odd posts he's wracked up in a couple of months on this forum have all been on our pages trying desperately to get our attention

As for the game itself, it was pretty awful stuff in that first 24 minutes in particular. They just rolled through and our boys just weren't up to it.

Souths were March premiers last year though, and after round 1 people were predicting they could go the whole season without a loss, but they ended up falling to pieces by mid-way and their Premiership defence ended in an utter shambles.

Meanwhile the Cowboys couldn't buy a win at the start of last year, so let's not be too down.

Each year is different of course, but if there's one big positive out of the game its that Souffs suffered big injuries to both Sutton and Reynolds

That's right, 'they'd forgotten how to lose' was the mantra. They forgot how to win by season's end.

Yesterday when Henderson came on he did so to play in the backrow. Jake was not benched (not unlerss it happened in the last 20minutes as I left at the last drinks break). Having him there gives better flexibility from a tactical sense than just having 4 big boppers who can only play prop or second row.

Also to my previous post, having re-read the match report on the NRL's website, I had forgotten we had 3 of the first 4 sets of 6 with the ball. It all went pearshaped after Jackson Hastings' grubber at the end of that 3rd set just went over the deadball line. This was then compounded by giving away consecutive penalties which helped march Souths down the field.

From then on, in the next 16 sets of 6, we had 2 to Souths 14.

You know you're doing well when all you have to cheer for is opposition injuries.

See your joke of a side in a few weeks when you are 0-5 and counting down the days till Pearce (lol) returns.

Who's your side? Actually, I don't care. I'm sure we'll smash whatever trash you support. This week was all part of Robbos plan to lull the comp into a false sense of security ;)

True.

Also, if history repeats..... in the opening round of 2013 we played the scum at the SFS. We had a "full strength" side and were getting caned 28-4. A late SBW try made the score look slighty better at 28-10.

As usual Souffs fans were lining up outside the prison tattooist for their "March Premiership" tramp stamps but it was the MIGHTY ROOSTERS who went on to take yet another title. \\\\:D/
