Souths should relocate

South Sydney has reportedly told up to ten players that they will never again play first grade for the embattled National Rugby League club.
The news, reported by radio station 2GB, comes on a day when Rabbitohs chairman George Piggins and TV personality Andrew Denton, part of a ticket challenging the current football board, traded bitter words in public.
On radio station 2SM, Piggins accused Denton of supporting a merger between Souths and Cronulla before the foundation club embarked on a two-year court battle with News Limited for reinstatement to the NRL.
The pair exchanged angry words as Denton and his ticket, headed by lawyer Nick Pappas, prepare to wrest control of the club from Piggins at the football board elections Sunday week.
Meanwhile, the careers of at least four players at the Rabbitohs looks to be over after they were told they were surplus requirements to the first grade squad.
But hooker Jason Death, winger Joven Clarke, utility Andrew Hinson and centre Russell Richardson won't be sacked because it will cost the club too much money to pay out their contracts.
2GB reported that more players will be told they have no future at the club under new coach Paul Langmack, who has been appointed to the job for three years.
Souths have not won a match since July last year and face 2002 grand finalist New Zealand Warriors at Ericsson Stadium on Sunday.

I just saw an interview with Alan Jones and he slammed Denton and co for using as he put it "buzz words" such as 'regeneration' and 'reinvigoration' programs then goes on to say he himself has introduced a "regeneration" program at South Sydney Leagues Club.

Apparently Piggins called Denton 'a wimp'.
Denton made his usual annoying swarmy comebacks and then Piggins promised to sort it out with a bit of fisticuffs.
Denton accused Piggins of only being able to sort things out with threats of physical violence.

Now, this is where I'm confused... we already know that George Piggins is from the old school and happy to go the biff and we most certainly already know that Andrew Denton is an annoying wimp... so where's the scoop?

If I was a Souths supporter, I'd be crying in my beer tonight. And in the morning, I'd want to go down and thump the christ out of the both of them.
After that dumb-arse display, Piggins and Denton should both piss off.

Rabbitohs' rage

The battle for control of South Sydney football club degenerated into a series of personal insults and physical threats between chairman George Piggins and television personality Andrew Denton yesterday. During a farcical radio slanging match, the combatants accused each other of lying. Piggins called Denton a wimp and told him he would put him on his backside. Denton, who is supporting a rebel ticket against Piggins's chairmanship of the embattled club, had just finished a studio interview on radio 2SM and was listening to a telephone interview with Piggins. When Piggins accused Denton and his supporters of backing a merger with Cronulla, an incensed Denton jumped back on the microphone. "I really do have to contradict that lie about this group wanting to merge with Cronulla, you know that, and you said it in your book that we stood side by side on the issue," Denton said.
"I really think you should retract that statement in public right now, George - that is a lie and an outright lie and you know it is." Piggins replied: "I won't retract that statement ... you and the others put your hands up." On the syndicated Saturday Sports Network program, Denton then continued to defend his position. "I put my career on the line for two years for this club not to merge," he said. "George Piggins, you're just telling lies and lowering yourself ... I won't have you slandering me. This is a desperate throw of the dice, George - you can't play the ball so you're playing the man." Piggins then threatened to punch out Denton the next time the two met. "You're the liar - and I wish you'd come out and call me a liar to my face, and then I'll sit you on your arse," he said. Denton then questioned whether Souths was run by Piggins using physical intimidation and revealed the club did not even have a marketing manager. "I'm not into this to fight you physically if that's the way you want to run the club ... I never backed a merger. Why would I have spent the past two years affecting my own career fighting for Souths to stand alone if I backed a merger? Why would I have done that?" Denton said. He then revealed an insight into the bitter infighting that has occurred behind closed doors at the famous club. "You've been happy to take my free help for 13 years. Publicly, I've done everything to support this club. Privately, you and I have disagreed," Denton said. Piggins concurred: "Privately we've extremely disagreed." He then continued to threaten Denton. "I'm not going to cop a wimp like you standing over me. I'm telling you you're a wimp and that's all you'll ever be," Piggins said. Denton said: "Frankly, George, if your way of resolving a disagreement is to punch me in the face ... I'm not a fighter, you could whip me with one hand tied behind your back, and if that's the way you want it then let that be an example of how South Sydney is run." Denton accused Piggins of allowing the club to be tagged "a club in crisis" by the media and of speaking too much to the press. "Is there a journalist in Sydney who does not know your inner-most thoughts?" Denton asked. "They ring you because they know you are always good for a quote." Piggins said he spoke to the press because he needed to help with the "marketing" of the club.</BOD>

George Piggins has announced that he is standing down as Chairman of the South Sydney District Rugby League Football Club following thirteen years at the helm. The decision was reached following a marathon meeting between Piggins and Nicholas Pappas this afternoon at South Sydney Leagues Club. A compromise has been reached, which both parties describe as being very much in the best interests of the Club. "I have given the issue a great deal of thought and reached the decision that I would only be staying in the Chairman's role for another twelve month period,” said Piggins. “It became obvious that the candidates suggested by Nicholas Pappas would make an excellent Board. I think the make-up of the new board will be very strong and I look forward to watching the Club develop under its guidance," Piggins concluded. The revised Board structure includes five directors that have been serving on the Piggins Board in recent months, while four new faces will appear on the new Pappas Board.

So we still havent seen the end of George just yet.

Good luck to him. This way, he'll be remembered as the guy who got Souths back into the competition.
If he hung around, he'd be remembered as the guy who got them kicked out for a second time.
